Even in the most barren and desolate locations, one can still find beauty. I spent a good deal of my time in and around the Salton Sea hunting for the most interesting urbex locations I could find, but it’s always important to keep all your photography options open. Bombay Beach was absolutely full of old, decrepit structures and I had an absolute blast shooting them, but as the sun was setting I forced myself to change gears and quickly switched into landscape mode. As a number of my photog buddies have mentioned in blogs before me, it can be valuable not to be pigeon-holed into one single genre of photography. Diversity is a good thing. Experimentation is a good thing. Always keep your thinking cap on, and be ready to switch gears whenever that next great opportunity presents itself.
Love this shot…the birds really add to the desolate nature of the frame, and the colors are beautiful. I guess I’m also a sucker for landscapes though!
I’m liking this shot. In fact, I want it as a wallpaper for my laptop. I’m liking the subdued color in the sky, the fact that you caught the birds, and the glassy surface of the water. This brings back so many memories of going fishing with my grandfather in the early morning hours and late evening hours. Now I need a boat and fishing pole again.
Beautiful image and processing!
Just beautiful simplicity. The comp is really strong Heath!
Love this Heath, the birds in the sky are a nice touch as well. Hope all is well my friend!
Masterful composition. Really love how you framed the foreground rocks, it just leads the eye right through the image.
Very cool! I love the subtle colors. The rocks lead into the scene nicely.
Good advice, good words, love the shot!
I don’t think I would have noticed the birds without the others mentioning it! Awesome stuff 🙂
Sweet Shot Heath! Really dig your processing skills. This one is spot on. I’m a big fan of the birds in the scene as well.
Heath, you are killing it! Very inspiring post, beautiful image!
A philosophy that is sometimes easy to forget. Great image and blog!
Heath this is one of the best in the series. Nice job.
Love the tones on the horizon Heath. Awesome work here!
Great shot, Heath. I think what makes the image work so well for me are the rocks and how they just lead the eye through the image. Plus, it just gives off a sense of peace.
Very nicely done, Heath. I agree with you about being deverse, and as much as I like your urbex images, your landscape shots have been tremendous.
Great image – lovely compo and rule of thirds. really like the detail in the foreground rocks
Nice shot Heath. Liking the thin strip of land covering the horizon and the soft colours graduating from it.
Wonderful composition…and an awesome sense of place here. The clarity on the central rock is killer.
Another beautiful sunset shot! Great work!
