Rocky Mountains – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Wed, 05 Jan 2011 14:15:59 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 If You Build It? – Score Shack http://heathofee.com/2011/01/05/if-you-build-it-score-shack/ http://heathofee.com/2011/01/05/if-you-build-it-score-shack/#comments Wed, 05 Jan 2011 14:15:59 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1517 Today, another installment of my ‘If You Build It?’ series from the abandoned baseball diamond in Seebe, Alberta. You can find the other images in the series here, here, and here.

I’m not entirely sure what the purpose of this little shack used to be, but I’m guessing it may have been where the scorekeeper used to sit during the game. It took a bit of creative maneuvering to get my tripod and camera into a decent position to take this shot. The door to the shack was not being particularly helpful, and I kept getting smacked in the face by some unruly little trees, but in the end, I was relatively happy with this composition.

I decided to go with a pretty dark look when editing this image. I really wanted to emphasize the deep shadows and bright highlights, and make sure that the chair and lone paintball strike were the focal points. To achieve this, I selectively applied the ‘Midnight’ and ‘Tonal Contrast’ filters from Nik Color Efex Pro on top of my usual application of a number of filters in Phototools. My processing for this image was definitely inspired by urbex HDR master, Jacques Gudé (aka fotofreq). If you’re unfamiliar with his work, be sure to check it out!

Chateau Lake Louise Foyer http://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/chateau-lake-louise-foyer/ http://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/chateau-lake-louise-foyer/#respond Sun, 05 Sep 2010 22:19:36 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1030 I’ve said this before, but the Chateau Lake Louise is an amazing hotel in a very amazing location. This is another of the shots I took on my brief visit there earlier this year and I think it may be one of my favorites. On the left you can see the check in counter, and the main entrance is just out of frame to the right. I thought about taking a shot looking in from the entrance, but I felt that this composition with the grand staircase in the background was much better.

Columns and Couches http://heathofee.com/2010/07/10/columns-and-couches/ http://heathofee.com/2010/07/10/columns-and-couches/#respond Sat, 10 Jul 2010 16:37:45 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=817 On my trip to the mountains a while back, I probably spent a good couple of hours walking around the Chateau Lake Louise looking for interesting spots to shoot. The architecture and vibrant colors in the hotel make it an absolute joy to capture, and I’m sure most of you have seen the previous photos I’ve published from my time at the Chateau. This shot was taken upstairs almost directly above the main lobby. The columns, fireplace and corner bench couches made this huge sitting room a must to photograph. I can just picture skiers who have come back to the Chateau sitting here in front of the fireplace chatting about the day with a nice warm cup of hot chocolate or coffee…hmmm…maybe I’ll have to do that next winter! Hope you enjoy it:
