No trip to New York City would be complete without a visit to Grand Central Terminal (don’t even THINK about calling it a ‘station’) – and my visit was absolutely amazing thanks to Steve Beal and Chris Robins. They managed to hook us up with tripod passes and a behind the scenes tour that took us to the control centre and the clocktower! Truly an amazing experience. In the coming weeks I should be sharing a couple of these behind the scenes images, but for today (since it is #FilmFriday, after all) I thought I’d share a simple composition from the main hall.
There was just something about the harsh light and shadows playing across these ticket windows that spoke to me. I can almost feel the history through this photograph and I think capturing it on film was a great way to do this amazing building justice. I hope you agree.
Equipment:
– Mamiya M645 1000s
– Mamiya Sekor C 80mm f/2.8
– Kodak Portra 400
That’s awesome! Love this place.
Fantastic capture Heath. Film was a great choice, especially with this composition.
Dammit, it’s a STATION. 🙂 Seriously, this is a great shot, Heath, and it’s even more impressive considering it’s film.
I dig the Mamiya, came out nicely. Glad you got some GCT love up on the blog.
Love the mood of this one. Great capture Heath!
Awesome shot! Love the DoF here and the vintage vibe. Stupid NJ transit system making me 2 hours late, otherwise I would have been able to shoot with you guys! How’d the rest of the rolls come out?
Mamiya! This seriously rocks dude. Love the play of light on the counter.
Wow dude, this is an awesome idea for a photo here. Never even thought of it! Executed perfectly and I love the light.
The softness of the details and the subtle changes in light are just fantastic!
Thanks for the mention 🙂 – it was really a pleasure meeting you (finally) and shooting with ya! I love today’s image, I stare at that board all the time trying to catch the Metro North train to Rye, beautifully captured and processed!
Love the shadows!
Love the lighting here. So good.
Love this Heath. The lighting really give sit an old time feel.
Love it man!
Now get our portrait film shots developed!! 🙂
Nice picture today Heath, looks great. Tripod passes huh? That’s interesting.
Loving how the shadows add such a nice touch of dramatic feeling.
I really did the shadow play in this image. Well done.
How do you go about getting a “tripod pass”??? I think it is ridiculous that you would need one in order to use a tripod. Nice shot BTW. I like the processing you applied. Well done.
i agree, great image.
Wow, that is so very cool Heath! Awesome shot here man!
Very cool image, I like the way the light is hitting the ticket vending area. Great location for photography.
