One of the stops I made on the way home from Golden, BC this past weekend was at Wapta Falls. From the parking area, it’s about a 3km hike to get to the very impressive falls, and on the way back to my car I decided to slap on the 50mm, set it to f/1.4 and see what I could come up with. I had a great time experimenting with how to make the shallow depth of field work in that environment, and I came away with a few shots that I’m happy with. It can be very rewarding to limit yourself to a single lens or focal length while on a shoot. It forces you to think a bit differently and get out of your comfort zone.
Love your choice of focal point and low perspective. Great work my fried!
One of my favorite exercises. Dig the simplicity of this shot and how you really emphasize depth and tones.
This is great Heath, a fantastic low angle shot, love the path disappearing.
Lovely shot. Looks like a great hiking trail with a nice reward (falls) at the end.
I like to limit myself to a single lens a lot too. It can really help with visualization.
This DOF teases you with an unknown trail; makes you want to keep walking. Looks like you stopped and looked back! Great beginning to a story. . .
Looks like a good path for my Rockhopper. Nice shot man.
Very cool shot – almost miniaturistic.. is that a word? I like the POV a lot. Btw, how are the black flies in BC?
Nice bokeh.
Great work on the dof and perspective Heath! Well done!
Great shot Heath – love the DOF!
I love this shot. Such a great idea to use one lens on a little trek instead dragging all your gear. Using just the one lens makes you really “work” for the photo. Besides, this is such a great lens! You used the shooting angle and limited depth of field very effectively.
I love this. Nice job taking a common scene and making it unique.
Love this kind of shot man, awesome DoF, your POV is perfect
Sweet photo Heath.
I did that the other day going to a wedding. I wasn’t the photographer for the wedding, but did want to capture a few shots so I put on the 50mm prime. It took me a bit to get used to not having a zoom, but finally got my muse. I love the DOF work you can do with a wide open prime! Excellent shot, Heath!
great perspective and DoF
Great comp and depth
