Okay, last one of the series…from this trip anyway. And what better way to finish a series about a huge inland saltwater lake than with a shot of the shoreline and lake stretching to the horizon at sunset. This shot also more clearly depicts an interesting duality that exists in the Salton Sea: while fish are dying by the thousands, bird life is absolutely flourishing in this area. Apparently, the Salton Sea is right on a major migration route, and quite a few species of birds make a stop there during their annual commute.
Thanks so much for all the amazing feedback I’ve had on this series, I appreciate every single comment and RT! I hope to be back in the area sometime this year, and with any luck I’ll be able to resurrect the series sometime down the road.
Awe, I’m sad to see the series end. Great photo to end this series on. I need to add this to my list of places to photograph. Thanks for sharing it all week!
Love how the lake almost blends in with the sky at a point there. Almost like a negative edge pool.
All those dead fish…so weird man…thanks for capturing this for us, been a fun place to see. I suspect most “pro” photogs would rather go to Yosemite or Death Valley…places of beauty to document, instead of the fish carcasses of the Salton Sea.
Bravo.
Congrats on the end of your awesome series Heath. This is a great shot to post as the final installment. Not sure if the dead fish are a symbol of the end! 🙂
Great finish to the series Heath! Love the foreground all the way to where the water blends into the sky.
I love the ducks in this shot, of all things – great series dude, glad you did it!
Nice ending dude. I will miss these, really enjoyed the set. Love how the shore just bends around the frame, great comp.
All good things…
A fantastic series that showed your chops as a photographer, digital editor and blogger. Looking forward to the next great one.
Heath, you saved one of the best for last. This image reminds me of Mono Lake, which has “alien” rock formations.
Fantastic use of the leading line curve in the composition and great toning !
Great way to end the series Heath! I’m gonna dork out for a second and identify the birds – it looks like 2 Grebes (not sure of the exact species) just off shore… I would be surprised if Vultures didn’t take advantage of all of the fish.
I agree with Mike about the infinity pool effect, I like the fact that the edge of the water blends with the sky in an almost seamless transition.
I’m more than a bit sad to see this series come to an end. As I have said, this place is very high on my list of places I want to see. I do think that this is a great image to close out the series with.
