Great way to start off the spring 😉

Monolith https://heathofee.com/2011/07/07/monolith/ https://heathofee.com/2011/07/07/monolith/#comments Thu, 07 Jul 2011 13:10:20 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2704 I think this is my favourite building in Calgary. It’s called Palliser South, and sits just south and east of the iconic Calgary Tower. It’s definitely not the tallest building in the city, nor does it have the most grand foyer, but there’s something about the lines of the exterior that just sucks me in. I find myself staring up at it every time I pass by…which is twice a day since I park just across the street from it. Shooting it from any angle just makes me happy.

I’ve posted much more complex compositions of this building in the past, but today I thought I’d go with something simple.

Our Tower https://heathofee.com/2011/06/10/our-tower/ https://heathofee.com/2011/06/10/our-tower/#comments Fri, 10 Jun 2011 13:10:10 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2497 Time for the 3rd installment of #FilmFriday here on the blog. Today, the first urban shot I’ve posted from my Holga.

For anyone who lives in or has visited Calgary, this should be a familiar sight. For those of you who have never been to my hometown, this is a view from below the Calgary Tower, the most recognizable piece of architecture in the city. While it may not be as tall or impressive as the CN Tower in Toronto or the Space Needle in Seattle, it’s our tower, and we’re proud of it.

Simplicity https://heathofee.com/2011/05/15/simplicity/ https://heathofee.com/2011/05/15/simplicity/#comments Sun, 15 May 2011 14:10:35 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2346 Last week I came home from work one day to find that my wonderful wife had bought me a Holga 135! As I’m sure you can imagine, I was super excited to take it for a test run, so I grabbed a 5-pack of 200 ISO 35mm film from the local drugstore and loaded it up as soon as I got home.

The first test run of this new toy was on my day trip to the mountains this past Wednesday. I snapped most of a roll while on the hike and finished it off at an urbex site that happened to be on the way home. A few of the nature/landscape shots worked out, but I can see this camera producing much more interesting photos in an urban setting. The shot you see below is the last frame of the roll, and is probably my favourite. The simplicity of the composition and the strong contrast between the brown panel and white brick really seemed to work well.

Big Sky https://heathofee.com/2010/09/28/big-sky/ https://heathofee.com/2010/09/28/big-sky/#respond Tue, 28 Sep 2010 15:56:38 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1079 Endless wheat fields and big blue skies are a common scene on the western Canadian prairies during the summer months. During my short road trip on Labour Day, I had plenty of opportunity to capture some of these scenes right on the side of the TransCanada highway. Most of the shots I captured had some sort of focal point other than the wheat fields and sky, but I found this shot which contains nothing but clouds, sky, and wheat worthy of posting as it really showcases the rural Alberta landscape. Plus those big, puffy clouds were just begging to be shot 😉
