Shore – heath ofee dot com https://heathofee.com Wed, 19 Oct 2011 12:25:45 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 The Cliffs https://heathofee.com/2011/10/19/the-cliffs/ https://heathofee.com/2011/10/19/the-cliffs/#comments Wed, 19 Oct 2011 13:10:03 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3539 Yesterday I had a sudden urge to revisit the images I took while in Maui earlier this year. By no means have I posted all the images I’d like to from that trip, so as it continues to get colder here in Calgary I’ll likely post a few more of these shots to try to warm myself up 🙂

This shot is just down from a roadside pullout about halfway between Kihei and Lahaina. The view from the top is quite nice, but just a short journey down the hill led to some much better views of these awesome cliffs. This was a stunning spot in the middle of the day, so I’m sure it would have been than much more amazing during sunset – but I never made it back.

This is a 3 exposure panorama using the shift capabilities of the Canon 24mm tilt/shift lens. Such a great lens and such an easy way to create panoramas – one day I may add that lens to my bag permanently.

Equipment:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II

Honalua Bay https://heathofee.com/2011/08/10/honalua-bay/ https://heathofee.com/2011/08/10/honalua-bay/#comments Wed, 10 Aug 2011 13:10:50 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2926 “On my fifth day in Maui, my true love gave to meeeee….Hona-a-lu-ua Bay”

Okay, well she didn’t really GIVE it to me, but I did manage to get a day to myself to drive/shoot the entire west and north coasts of the island. I left from Kihei and made my way all the way around the coast to Wailuku, braving the very narrow single-lane ‘highway’ that begins a ways past Kapalua.

One of the highlights of this drive was the view of Honalua Bay you see below. The colour of the water was absolutely amazing, and you can see why this is a great snorkeling destination (all of those little dots are snorkelers doing their thing).

Salton Sea – Decay https://heathofee.com/2011/02/28/salton-sea-decay/ https://heathofee.com/2011/02/28/salton-sea-decay/#comments Mon, 28 Feb 2011 14:01:34 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1901 Since I still have quite a few shots from Southern California to share, I thought I’d return to my vintage ‘Salton Sea’ series this week. I really enjoy going through these images, and I’m excited to share another 4 or 5 of them with you.

Now, I apologize in advance if anyone is grossed out by the image below, but this is a common scene on the shores of the Salton Sea. As the salinity in the lake has risen over the years, a number of species of fish have started to die off. The result is what you see below…shorelines absolutely littered with dead and decaying fish. It’s really quite sad.

Canon EOS 50D, Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5, 17mm, F 11, ISO 100, 1/160 sec
