This past weekend I had the pleasure of shooting in Joshua Tree National Park and around the Salton Sea with an awesome group of guys: Mike Olbinski, Chris DeAngelis, Rick Young, Chris Frailey, and Doug Wise. I was down in the Palm Springs area for a week of vacation and let these dudes (who are from Phoenix and the Fresno area) that I was thinking of camping one night in Joshua Tree and taking some photos, of course. These brave souls agreed to meet me, and we proceeded to freeze our butts off as temperatures dipped below freezing overnight! Despite the cold, we had a great time and I think we all came away with some shots we’re quite proud of. Make sure you stay tuned to all of our blogs for the photo goodness that is sure to come.
The first image I’ll share with you is from Bombay Beach on the Salton Sea (some of you may remember my series from this location last year). It was great to visit this unique location again – and doubly awesome to have some clouds in the sky this time!

]]>I hope all my American friends remember and enjoy the Memorial Day holiday.
]]>I toted the new X100 with me to work, and snapped a few frames on the walk back to my car yesterday afternoon. This is my favourite of the small set. Gotta love some abstract reflections
]]>For those of you living in Calgary, you may be able to recognize this as the reflection of The Bow currently under construction here in town. As soon as I looked up to this window above me and saw the slightly garbled reflection, I knew I had to get the shot. Incidentally, this was the last set of brackets I got before my meeting with the security guard this weekend…definitely glad I was able to finish up this set!
I had to crop this shot significantly to isolate just the reflection, as the original frame contained almost the entire window and some of the surrounding wall. Given more time, I would have thrown on a longer lens to get closer to the action, but I’m quite satisfied with how it turned out. I left it in a tall, odd crop to add to the abstract feel.
]]>While the photos of the skyline still need a bit more tweaking, I did take one other set of brackets of the bridge leading into Centenary Park. This shot is a bit of a re-creation of an old photo I shot on film from years past. I’ve always known I wanted to try the shot again because the colors came out completely wrong on film. I’ve put both images in this post…the top one was shot the other night and the greeny looking bottom one was shot on film all those years ago. Hopefully the new one is an improvement!
