Panorama – heath ofee dot com https://heathofee.com Tue, 06 Dec 2011 13:28:34 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Times Square https://heathofee.com/2011/12/06/times-square/ https://heathofee.com/2011/12/06/times-square/#comments Tue, 06 Dec 2011 14:10:02 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3904 It’s impossible to go to New York City and not come away with a few dozen shots of Times Square. It’s such an iconic location and there’s so much going on ALL THE TIME – I was amazed. So, I thought I’d try to show the somewhat chaotic atmosphere by presenting a triptych of somewhat abstract panoramas. On their own none of these shots are spectacular, but seen together I feel they really show the atmosphere of one of the worlds most recognizable places.

The Cliffs https://heathofee.com/2011/10/19/the-cliffs/ https://heathofee.com/2011/10/19/the-cliffs/#comments Wed, 19 Oct 2011 13:10:03 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3539 Yesterday I had a sudden urge to revisit the images I took while in Maui earlier this year. By no means have I posted all the images I’d like to from that trip, so as it continues to get colder here in Calgary I’ll likely post a few more of these shots to try to warm myself up 🙂

This shot is just down from a roadside pullout about halfway between Kihei and Lahaina. The view from the top is quite nice, but just a short journey down the hill led to some much better views of these awesome cliffs. This was a stunning spot in the middle of the day, so I’m sure it would have been than much more amazing during sunset – but I never made it back.

This is a 3 exposure panorama using the shift capabilities of the Canon 24mm tilt/shift lens. Such a great lens and such an easy way to create panoramas – one day I may add that lens to my bag permanently.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Prairie Vibrance https://heathofee.com/2011/08/22/prairie-vibrance/ https://heathofee.com/2011/08/22/prairie-vibrance/#comments Mon, 22 Aug 2011 13:10:07 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2856 In keeping with the panorama theme from Friday, I figured I’d share this shot from my home province of Alberta. Now, this isn’t a panorama in the truest sense – it’s just a wide aspect crop of a single frame. The original included much more of the fresh, black pavement and I felt it ate up too much of the frame. There’s nothing wrong with some creative cropping every now and then 🙂

Any guesses on what that yellow crop is?

CHC 119 https://heathofee.com/2010/11/21/chc-119/ https://heathofee.com/2010/11/21/chc-119/#comments Sun, 21 Nov 2010 17:10:05 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1347 Inspired by Jacob Lucas’ post yesterday, I decided to revisit some panorama brackets I shot very early this year at the University of Calgary. I shot a few sets of brackets in various lecture theatres with the intention of merging them into panoramas, but didn’t have too much luck with my first attempts. With the help of Jacob’s post, and the better merging capabilities in Photoshop CS5, I was able to achieve some better results.

This first image is of Cragie Hall Building C, Room 119 (CHC 119 for those who attended the U of C). I had a first year physics lecture in this classroom when I was still an engineering major…so I wouldn’t say I have extremely fond memories of this room, but I decided to photograph it nonetheless. There are a few alignment issues that can be seen when this image is viewed large (click the image to see it larger on Flickr) which I think is the result of shooting the three sets of brackets at 10mm. When shooting this wide there tends to be a bit too much distortion around the edges of the frame…consider this a lesson learned! I believe I should have another couple lecture theatre panoramas to share, so keep a look out!
