He was up in my neck of the woods from his home in Colorado on a photography trip with 8 or 9 other shooters from across North America. Sounds like they had a great time in and around the Banff area and I was happy to be able to spend an evening with them all.

The first spot Rick wanted to hit with me was a small hillside creek that created a ridiculous quantity of small waterfalls. He and the crew had stumbled upon the location earlier in the trip, and I’m glad they did as I could have spent hours shooting these little falls. Below is one of my faves from that location.

Equipment:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L
B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter

Mossy Flow https://heathofee.com/2011/05/13/mossy-flow/ https://heathofee.com/2011/05/13/mossy-flow/#comments Fri, 13 May 2011 13:10:52 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2334 I took the day off work on Wednesday and used my time to drive out to the mountains for a bit of a photo excursion. On the recommendation from a co-worker, I made my way to Grassi Lakes which is just around the corner from the Canmore Nordic Centre where all the cross-country skiing events were held during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. After a short hike, I reached the two small lakes, and the colour was just amazing. Both mountain lakes shone with a rich blue/green hue…it really was beautiful. However, what I really wanted to shoot was the waterfall just slightly downstream from these lakes…so I made my way down to where I could hear running water found exactly what I was looking for. Water tumbled down a steep cliff face and cascaded around old fallen logs and mossy rocks. Jackpot.

Moss https://heathofee.com/2011/04/12/moss/ https://heathofee.com/2011/04/12/moss/#comments Tue, 12 Apr 2011 13:10:01 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2190 I don’t shoot these kind of details very often…mostly because I don’t have a lens with macro capabilities, but it’s fun to give it a try every now and then. I find having a lens with a very wide aperture helps out with shots like these as the selective focus and razor thin depth of field can add some drama and interest to an otherwise simple scene.
