fisheye – heath ofee dot com https://heathofee.com Tue, 28 Feb 2012 03:28:07 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 View From the Clock https://heathofee.com/2011/10/20/view-from-the-clock/ https://heathofee.com/2011/10/20/view-from-the-clock/#comments Thu, 20 Oct 2011 13:10:04 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3547 I have two people to thank for this shot: Steve Beal and Chris Robins. If Steve hadn’t called me at 9:20AM to let me know that he and Chris had hooked us up with a behind the scenes tour of Grand Central, I wouldn’t have come home with a unique shot like this. Why is it so unique, you ask? Well, this was taken from the clock tower in GCT! There is a small section of the bottom of the clock that actually swings open allowing just enough room for a single person to stick their head and torso out. When it was my turn, I borrowed Steve’s fisheye and fired away.

During my time there, I was constantly amazed at the natural beauty and diversity available to capture with my camera – and the scene below is no exception. This tree couldn’t have fallen in a more beautiful spot and I felt very lucky to have stumbled upon it.

The Beach https://heathofee.com/2011/08/17/the-beach/ https://heathofee.com/2011/08/17/the-beach/#comments Wed, 17 Aug 2011 13:10:45 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3014 On the advice of my good bud Jesse, I rented a 15mm fisheye lens for my trip to Maui. He said it was the best decision he made before his last trip to Hawaii, and I can tell you that I was pretty happy to have it with me…if only to get this shot.

I drove past this tiny beach/inlet/cove/bay on the way to the location where I took this image, and knew that I had to stop and capture it on my way back. There are some scenes that just seem to be perfect for the fisheye look, and to my eye, this was one of them. The symmetry, the curved horizon, the natural curve of the bay…everything just seemed to fall into place for this shot.

So thanks to Jesse for persuading me to rent a fisheye. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to make this shot. Moral of the story? Listen to your friends…often times their advice will pay off.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Honalua Bay https://heathofee.com/2011/08/10/honalua-bay/ https://heathofee.com/2011/08/10/honalua-bay/#comments Wed, 10 Aug 2011 13:10:50 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2926 “On my fifth day in Maui, my true love gave to meeeee….Hona-a-lu-ua Bay”

Okay, well she didn’t really GIVE it to me, but I did manage to get a day to myself to drive/shoot the entire west and north coasts of the island. I left from Kihei and made my way all the way around the coast to Wailuku, braving the very narrow single-lane ‘highway’ that begins a ways past Kapalua.

One of the highlights of this drive was the view of Honalua Bay you see below. The colour of the water was absolutely amazing, and you can see why this is a great snorkeling destination (all of those little dots are snorkelers doing their thing).

Fisheyed Puppy https://heathofee.com/2011/08/01/fisheyed-puppy/ https://heathofee.com/2011/08/01/fisheyed-puppy/#comments Mon, 01 Aug 2011 13:10:08 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2887 This week I’m away on a trip to Hawaii for my best bud’s wedding…but little does he know, the REAL reason I’m going is to take photos 😉 I’ve never been before, and I couldn’t be more excited to capture this exotic paradise.

On the recommendation of my pal Jesse Pafundi, I rented a fisheye lens to take with me…he promises I won’t regret it. I took delivery of the lens a couple of days before I left, so of course I had to do a little bit of experimentation at home. Since the most interesting thing around my house is my dog, I figured I’d give the little devil the fisheye treatment. He doesn’t look too impressed.
