Filters – heath ofee dot com https://heathofee.com Thu, 08 Sep 2011 12:38:34 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Ghostly https://heathofee.com/2011/09/08/ghostly/ https://heathofee.com/2011/09/08/ghostly/#comments Thu, 08 Sep 2011 13:10:01 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3253 Alright, back to Maui again 🙂

Some of you may recognize the tree in this shot as I’ve shared a few images from this specific location previously (here, here, and here). It was one of the most memorable spots I hit while in Maui, so I’m glad I spent the time trying to capture it from as many angles as possible.

Equipment:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L
B+W 77mm 10-stop ND Filter

Wapta Falls https://heathofee.com/2011/06/21/wapta-falls/ https://heathofee.com/2011/06/21/wapta-falls/#comments Tue, 21 Jun 2011 13:10:41 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2569 Let me tell you, the 2km hike to get to Wapta Falls is well worth it. This huge waterfall is very impressive to see, and my photo definitely does not do it justice. The sound is extraordinary and the sheer volume of water flowing over the falls every second is truly something to behold. Unfortunately, without some sort of small boat or the will to get wet and cold, there isn’t an easy way to get a shot of the falls from the bottom. So I had to make do with the few compositions I could find, and this is my favourite.

Awesome Power https://heathofee.com/2011/06/09/awesome-power/ https://heathofee.com/2011/06/09/awesome-power/#comments Thu, 09 Jun 2011 13:10:02 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2491 The title for this image is twofold today. Firstly, this image shows the awesome power of the Kicking Horse River. At one point, the river flowed overtop of the rock bridge that you see in this image. Over years and years of erosion, the water eventually carved its way through the rock and formed this amazing natural rock bridge over the river.

Secondly, this image shows the awesome power of graduated filters. While I always knew grads were extremely useful for landscapes such as these, it wasn’t until I bought some of my own and started using them that I really understood how fantastic they can be. This is a single exposure using a 2-stop graduated ND filter to bring the exposure in the sky even with that of the rest of the frame. I can’t tell you how excited I was to shoot frames like this, check my histogram, and see absolutely no blinkies. Revolutionary.
