It was an absolute pleasure to be able to see these amazing light beams shining into Antelope Canyon when I was there. Truly a once in a lifetime trip – I hope I managed to do this place justice.

Antelope Canyon was so impressive. The curved, striated rock and those crazy light beams were truly something to behold. Photos don’t really do it justice.

Purple https://heathofee.com/2011/03/11/purple/ https://heathofee.com/2011/03/11/purple/#comments Fri, 11 Mar 2011 13:56:09 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1996 During my one evening at Bombay Beach, I unwittingly composed and shot almost the exact same scene at two different times. The first was while the sun was still up, although low in the sky and the second was after the sun had set about 30 minutes later. I didn’t realize I had duplicated the scene until I started processing the photo you see below yesterday afternoon.

While I still enjoy the first image of the scene, I absolutely LOVE this version. I opted for a cooler colour palette to accentuate the blues and purples and used FocalPoint to blur out some of the foreground to really lead the viewer to the old stanchions in the water. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do.

Telephone Building https://heathofee.com/2010/10/16/telephone-building/ https://heathofee.com/2010/10/16/telephone-building/#comments Sat, 16 Oct 2010 23:11:11 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1172 This building is right across the street from my office downtown, and I see it every day when I walk back to my car. For most of the summer I had been telling myself that it would make for a pretty decent photo, so I’m glad I was able to get this shot when I was out last week.

I’m finding myself very quickly becoming a fan of Nik Color Efex Pro, and I’m about to shut everything down and install a trial version of OnOne PhotoTools and give that a try. All these photographic tools at our fingertips…we are very lucky to be living in these times! Oh, and I have a Canon TS-E 17mm lens in my possession for the next 7 days, so with any luck my next few blog entries will contain photos taken with that amazing piece of glass!

Antix Caboose https://heathofee.com/2010/10/07/antix-caboose/ https://heathofee.com/2010/10/07/antix-caboose/#comments Thu, 07 Oct 2010 14:59:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1141 This is another shot from my trip to Invermere back in August. Brei’s family has a place there, so we try to get out as often as possible during the summer and fall months. In the summer, water sports dominate the local lake and there are plenty of fantastic golf courses in and around the Invermere area for those of us who don’t enjoy the water as much. When out there, I’m usually in full relaxation mode and don’t often get out to shoot many brackets, but the weather was less than ideal back in August so I felt the need to fill up a bit of my weekend with some shooting. Most of the decent shots I got were from along the train tracks along one edge of the lake, so I thought I’d share another one with you today.

Another View of St. Paul’s Anglican Church https://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/another-view-of-st-pauls-anglican-church/ https://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/another-view-of-st-pauls-anglican-church/#respond Sun, 05 Sep 2010 21:53:55 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1006 A little while back I posted a photo of St. Paul’s Anglican Church here in Calgary (old post here) and it was a very successful photo for me. Not only did I receive a bunch of positive feedback from photogs and non-photogs alike, the photo was also purchased by the Anglican Journal for their 2011 calendar! So I thought I’d share another photo from what was a pretty cool day for snapping some brackets…perfect clouds and a very cool church/cemetery for a subject. Hope you all like this one too!

Storm Over New Brighton https://heathofee.com/2010/07/27/storm-over-new-brighton/ https://heathofee.com/2010/07/27/storm-over-new-brighton/#comments Tue, 27 Jul 2010 15:39:30 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=833 Recently we’ve been getting some pretty dramatic looking clouds and storms over Calgary, but because I have to get up ridiculously early for work I haven’t been staying up late enough to catch these storms during sunset. Inspired by Mike Olbinski, who has some amazing storm photos, I decided it was worth the loss of sleep and ventured out last Thursday night to get me some brackets!

I live in a relatively new suburb so there is still plenty of open space and construction going on and I knew just where I could find a good vantage point to see this storm…it was just luck that there was some tall wavy grass growing on the hill that happened to make for a perfect foreground. I thought about masking in one of the originals to keep the grass looking a bit more stationary, but I kinda like the flowing feel that the windswept grass gives. Hope you enjoy!

St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Midnapore https://heathofee.com/2010/05/31/st-pauls-anglican-church-in-midnapore/ https://heathofee.com/2010/05/31/st-pauls-anglican-church-in-midnapore/#comments Mon, 31 May 2010 14:55:48 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=750 We’ve been having some pretty depressing weather here in Calgary for the past couple of weeks…lots of rain, a bit of snow and plenty of cold. Not the kind of weather you’d like to see at the end of May. However, this kind of weather produces some really cool looking cloud formations that make for absolutely great photos. I had been telling myself that I should go take advantage of the opportunity all week, but never mustered up the motivation until yesterday afternoon (thanks for the extra push sweetie!). I knew exactly where I wanted to go…St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Midnapore. This historical church was built in 1885 and is in fantastic shape thanks to the Midnapore Church of England Society who have worked hard to maintain the church since the 1990’s. I was inspired to photograph this church by Steph over at MzDeitz who posted a really cool photo of the dilapidated St. Patrick’s Catholic Church which is just a stones throw north of St. Paul’s.

The clouds couldn’t have been more perfect when I arrived…this was the first shot I took when I got to the scene and the only one I’ve processed so far. I think I should have a few more good ones to make a neat little series of the church and cemetary. Let me know what you think:
