This past weekend I was on call for work so I decided to make use of my time in an empty downtown Calgary by bringing my Canon FT-b with me. Loaded with a roll of Fuji NPH 400, I took to the streets and parks and came back with a few images I was happy with – this is one of them. #FilmFriday

Inside the Crater

So far, my #FilmFriday photos have all been shot with my Holga 135 – today, I’m switching things up a bit. Before I left for Hawaii, I asked my dad if I could borrow his old Canon FT-b and 50mm 1.4 FD mount lens. He gladly obliged (since it was collecting dust anyway), so I added that old beast to my bag that was already stretched full with gear. I rattled off three rolls of film with the old Canon, and was mostly pleased with the way they turned out.

What you see below is a homemade film panorama/triptych that I shot while in the Haleakala crater. The path you see is called Sliding Sands Trail and it will take you from the mouth of the crater all the way to the bottom if you’ve got the legs. I had been up since 3am to shoot sunrise from the top of the crater that morning, so I only made it partway down the trail – but it was an amazing experience. Once inside the crater, you can easily forget that you’re even on earth. The dry, rocky landscape is like nothing I’ve ever seen and I’m glad I was able to experience it.
