Banff – heath ofee dot com https://heathofee.com Thu, 23 Feb 2012 13:18:55 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Alberta Bound https://heathofee.com/2012/02/23/alberta-bound/ https://heathofee.com/2012/02/23/alberta-bound/#comments Thu, 23 Feb 2012 14:10:06 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4204 This is arguably the most random smattering of images I’ve ever posted together. And I kinda like it.

I spent a good amount of time in 2011 travelling to various places around my home province of Alberta, and this is a small sampling of images from a few of my fave locations. Enjoy the randomness.

Sunset Clouds https://heathofee.com/2011/11/23/lake-minnewanka-clouds/ https://heathofee.com/2011/11/23/lake-minnewanka-clouds/#comments Wed, 23 Nov 2011 14:10:06 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3820 Sometimes you just get lucky.

The clouds during the sunset over Lake Minnewanka were just amazing – and sometimes you have to allow those clouds to be the main subject of your frame.

Lake #6 https://heathofee.com/2011/11/18/lake-minnewanka-photo/ https://heathofee.com/2011/11/18/lake-minnewanka-photo/#comments Fri, 18 Nov 2011 14:10:21 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3758 Lake Minnewanka. Probably my favourite lake in the Rockies.

I’ve shot here a few times in the last year and I just can’t get enough of it. Since long exposures were the name of the game for me last Tuesday, I kept the 10-stop ND on my lens during my time at Minnewanka – and I’m glad I did. The movement in those colourful clouds and the silky smooth water make this image for me. Have a great weekend!

P.S. Don’t worry, #FilmFriday will be back soon – I just don’t have enough analog material at the moment!

Lake #2 https://heathofee.com/2011/11/16/lake-louise-photo/ https://heathofee.com/2011/11/16/lake-louise-photo/#comments Wed, 16 Nov 2011 14:10:05 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3743 The second lake I hit on my mountain journey last week was Lake Louise – one of the most well known lakes in Banff National Park. I can almost guarantee you that it’s been shot by every photographer that comes to Banff, but I still can’t get enough of it. It’s just so picturesque and it looks a little bit different every time I visit. Last week the distant peaks were shrouded in circling cloud – something I’d never seen before, so I was happy to be able to capture it.

It was an amazing end to an awesome day.

Moraine by Moonlight https://heathofee.com/2011/09/28/moraine-by-moonlight/ https://heathofee.com/2011/09/28/moraine-by-moonlight/#comments Wed, 28 Sep 2011 13:10:52 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3353 Prior to meeting up with Rick Louie and the rest of the photography group he was with in Banff, I’d never attempted any night photography. That’s not to say I’ve never taken photos at night before, but I’ve never attempted to capture a landscape in near pitch black before. The evening I arrived, we all made our way to the shores of Moraine Lake after the sun had set for some long exposures under the moonlight. Our images would have been a bit more dramatic had the moon made it’s way over the mountains on the left before we got too cold to continue, but I’m relatively happy with how this turned out. I was a bit unsure how to process this shot, so I ended up leaving it quite close to the way it came out of the camera – I’ll have to experiment some more with this type of photography.

Roadside Falls https://heathofee.com/2011/09/23/roadside-falls/ https://heathofee.com/2011/09/23/roadside-falls/#comments Fri, 23 Sep 2011 13:10:10 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3345 While I was in the Lake Louise area with Rick Louie last week, I took a bit of time to experiment with some long exposures on film. Armed with my Canon Elan 7 and a roll of Kodak Ektar 100, I let loose for a few exposures on the roadside falls we found. I polished the roll off a couple nights ago and got it developed and scanned last night – and boy was I happy with the results. Ektar has great colour saturation and punchy contrast which is just how I like my landscape images, oh, and there’s hardly any visible grain, which is crazy. I’ll definitely be shooting more Ektar in the future.

Cool Water https://heathofee.com/2011/09/19/cool-water/ https://heathofee.com/2011/09/19/cool-water/#comments Mon, 19 Sep 2011 13:10:36 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3319 Last Sunday and Monday I had the pleasure of meeting and shooting with Rick Louie of Hansrico Photography. He was up in my neck of the woods from his home in Colorado on a photography trip with 8 or 9 other shooters from across North America. Sounds like they had a great time in and around the Banff area and I was happy to be able to spend an evening with them all.

The first spot Rick wanted to hit with me was a small hillside creek that created a ridiculous quantity of small waterfalls. He and the crew had stumbled upon the location earlier in the trip, and I’m glad they did as I could have spent hours shooting these little falls. Below is one of my faves from that location.

onOne Takes On https://heathofee.com/2011/07/18/onone-takes-on/ https://heathofee.com/2011/07/18/onone-takes-on/#comments Mon, 18 Jul 2011 13:10:51 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2767 Last week I had the honour of having one of my unprocessed images be part of a new series of webinars put on by Brian Matiash of onOne Software. The series is called onOne Takes On and is all about exploring individual vision when processing images. I won’t go into great detail describing the webinar, but please take the time to watch this great webinar. The image you see below is the one I donated to the webinar, and was taken at Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park.

If you like the tools you see used in the video, make sure to check out the amazing summer savings onOne is having right now. The Perfect Photo Suite 5.5 has never been greater value!

Evening Reflections https://heathofee.com/2011/07/06/evening-reflections/ https://heathofee.com/2011/07/06/evening-reflections/#comments Wed, 06 Jul 2011 13:10:17 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2688 Another shot from Emerald Lake today. I spent a good amount of time taking photos on the far shore that you can see in the frame below, but from the moment we walked past this dock when we arrived, I knew I had to incorporate it into a composition. It was almost time for us to pack up and head home for the night by the time I got back to this location, but I made Laz and Halford wait for me while I set up this shot…and I’m glad I did 🙂
