badlands – heath ofee dot com https://heathofee.com Tue, 06 Sep 2011 16:02:21 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Ice Age https://heathofee.com/2011/09/06/ice-age/ https://heathofee.com/2011/09/06/ice-age/#comments Tue, 06 Sep 2011 13:10:21 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3244 This weekend we had some family come in from New Zealand. They main reason for their trip was the Penticton Ironman (I know, crazy people, right?) but they were able to make the trip to Calgary for a few days visit with us as well. It was awesome to see my aunt and cousin as I hadn’t seen them in 6 and 8 years respectively – one of the downfalls of your extended family living in NZ.

The weekend was a busy one as we tried to show them a few of the cool spots we have to offer in Alberta – one of which was Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrell Museum which houses some pretty amazing dinosaur fossil specimens. Obviously, I was snapping away all day, and the shot below is one of my faves.

Equipment:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon 50mm f/1.4
BlackĀ¤Rapid RS-4 Camera Strap

The Badlands 2 https://heathofee.com/2011/08/05/the-badlands-2/ https://heathofee.com/2011/08/05/the-badlands-2/#comments Fri, 05 Aug 2011 13:10:53 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2904 For today’s #FilmFriday, I thought I’d post another shot from my trip to Drumheller a few weeks ago. I think these cracked hills and valleys are the perfect subject for my Holga…the colours come out great and you get that real sense of nostalgia in the photograph.

Cracking Up https://heathofee.com/2011/07/21/cracking-up/ https://heathofee.com/2011/07/21/cracking-up/#comments Thu, 21 Jul 2011 13:10:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2841 I debated over what image to post today, but in the end, this shot from the badlands in Drumheller won out. This valley in southern Alberta contains the most alien landscape in the province as far as I’m concerned. Huge cracked mounds of sedimentary rock litter the valley, showcasing the various layers of rock and clay that have been exposed through millions of years of erosion. Truly a marvel.

The Badlands https://heathofee.com/2011/07/15/the-badlands/ https://heathofee.com/2011/07/15/the-badlands/#comments Fri, 15 Jul 2011 13:10:19 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2749 Man, the weeks are just whizzing by these days…I can’t believe it’s already time for another edition of #FilmFriday! This week is extra special because I have the distinct pleasure of introducing a new partner in Film Friday crime, Jesse Pafundi. Jesse is an amazing photographer and an even better friend. I’ve come to know him quite well over the past number of months through Twitter, IM and Skype, and I can tell you that he is one of the good guys. I’ve had the pleasure of watching his photographic style and vision develop into what it is today, and watching this growth has been nothing short of inspirational. I couldn’t be happier to have Jesse joining me for #FilmFriday. Please check out his shot here.

I recently took a short day trip out to Drumheller, Alberta to photograph the badlands in the area. It wasn’t a particularly fruitful day of shooting with the DSLR, but I was quite happy with the few Holga shots I took…a couple of which you can see below. Hope you all have a great weekend!
