So far, my #FilmFriday photos have all been shot with my Holga 135 – today, I’m switching things up a bit. Before I left for Hawaii, I asked my dad if I could borrow his old Canon FT-b and 50mm 1.4 FD mount lens. He gladly obliged (since it was collecting dust anyway), so I added that old beast to my bag that was already stretched full with gear. I rattled off three rolls of film with the old Canon, and was mostly pleased with the way they turned out.
What you see below is a homemade film panorama/triptych that I shot while in the Haleakala crater. The path you see is called Sliding Sands Trail and it will take you from the mouth of the crater all the way to the bottom if you’ve got the legs. I had been up since 3am to shoot sunrise from the top of the crater that morning, so I only made it partway down the trail – but it was an amazing experience. Once inside the crater, you can easily forget that you’re even on earth. The dry, rocky landscape is like nothing I’ve ever seen and I’m glad I was able to experience it.
Equipment:
– Canon FT-b Film SLR
– Canon 50mm 1.4 FD Mount
– Fujifilm Superia 200
Awesome, Heath! Must have been one hell of a cool place. I really like the vibrant blue negative space contrasting with the crater. Cool stuff man.
Cool shots, I like how vibrant the sky is against the rocky crater.
Rocking the film, like a BOSS!
Boss is right. This rocked my socks right off.
Dude! Impressive stuff!
That is awesome! I love it up there.
I just love the look of film. You did a wonderful job. Rich blues! Which reminds me….
I hope this is hanging on your wall at home. Brilliant Heath!
Nice to see the old Canon get some love. And it can still produce. Nice job creating this Heath.
Fantastic! Wow, I should pull out my film camera.
Week after week, you’re inspiring me to invest in a film camera. Way to go old school, Heath. These shots are great.
Sweet!
Love this pano…the stark landscape looks great!
Dude Heath, this is awesome, well done man.
