Vacation – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Sat, 02 Apr 2011 01:17:44 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Off Duty http://heathofee.com/2011/04/02/off-duty/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/02/off-duty/#comments Sat, 02 Apr 2011 14:25:13 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2133 Well, as I write this blog post the temperature is dropping here in Calgary, and we’re waiting for yet another dump of snow in what has felt like a never-ending winter. As terrible as the winter has been here, I know that a whole bunch of you have had a trying season as well, so I figured I’d post a nice sunrise shot from Mexico to warm us all up!

The Lounge http://heathofee.com/2011/02/18/the-lounge/ http://heathofee.com/2011/02/18/the-lounge/#comments Fri, 18 Feb 2011 13:51:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1817 Last night I thought I would try something a little different. Inspired by a few people (Viveca Koh, Chris Nitz, and Doug Landreth), I decided to do some experimentation with textures and frames. The shot below is a mashup of a number of layered effects from PhotoTools, three textures at varying opacities (also from PhotoTools or PhotoFrame), and a border frame from PhotoFrame. This is a bit of an experiment, so I’d love to hear some feedback. I had a lot of fun playing around with textures and frames, so I can see myself processing photos in a similar fashion in the future.

Busted http://heathofee.com/2010/11/27/busted/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/27/busted/#comments Sat, 27 Nov 2010 15:40:01 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1395 I’ve been having a bit of fun for the past couple of days going back through the photos from the trip I took to Italy in 2009. A lot of the shots are not up to my current standards, so it’s been a bit of a challenge to find some that are worth re-processing to share. It’s a challenge, but fun nonetheless, if only to see the progression I’ve made as a photographer over the last year and a half.

This is a close-up of one of the many busts on display in the Coliseum in Rome. I probably should have written down whose likeness this is when taking the photo, but I didn’t…so we’ll just say it’s a famous Roman emperor 😉 I decided to send this single RAW image through Photomatix Pro to see what kind of extra detail I could bring out. Even with only one exposure it did a great job of accentuating the textures and age in the stone. I then used onOne Phototools to help define the shadows and highlights to add a bit more punch. Hope you like this ‘in-your-face’ image 🙂

Antix Caboose http://heathofee.com/2010/10/07/antix-caboose/ http://heathofee.com/2010/10/07/antix-caboose/#comments Thu, 07 Oct 2010 14:59:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1141 This is another shot from my trip to Invermere back in August. Brei’s family has a place there, so we try to get out as often as possible during the summer and fall months. In the summer, water sports dominate the local lake and there are plenty of fantastic golf courses in and around the Invermere area for those of us who don’t enjoy the water as much. When out there, I’m usually in full relaxation mode and don’t often get out to shoot many brackets, but the weather was less than ideal back in August so I felt the need to fill up a bit of my weekend with some shooting. Most of the decent shots I got were from along the train tracks along one edge of the lake, so I thought I’d share another one with you today.
