Texture – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Sat, 30 Jul 2011 16:46:07 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 The Badlands 2 http://heathofee.com/2011/08/05/the-badlands-2/ http://heathofee.com/2011/08/05/the-badlands-2/#comments Fri, 05 Aug 2011 13:10:53 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2904 For today’s #FilmFriday, I thought I’d post another shot from my trip to Drumheller a few weeks ago. I think these cracked hills and valleys are the perfect subject for my Holga…the colours come out great and you get that real sense of nostalgia in the photograph.

Little House on the Prairie http://heathofee.com/2011/04/13/little-house-on-the-prairie/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/13/little-house-on-the-prairie/#comments Wed, 13 Apr 2011 13:10:15 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2197 I’ll admit, this shot is a bit of an experiment, and I’m willing to bet it’s not for everyone…but what’s the fun in producing the same ol’ stuff all the time, right?

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve done a bit of work with textures before, but I’ve never used one that so obviously makes an image look like a painting. When I applied this brushstroke texture as a bit of fun, I ended up really liking the result. I think it adds a bit of extra depth and gives the shot a real tangible feeling…like you could reach out and touch all that texturing. I’m more than open to critique, so feel free to leave honest comments below.

Textured Villa http://heathofee.com/2011/04/10/textured-villa/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/10/textured-villa/#comments Sun, 10 Apr 2011 15:05:29 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2183 Since I’m on a bit of an Italy kick, I thought I’d share another from my time there a couple years ago. This shot is of Villa Poderaccio, the Tuscan Villa we stayed in for the week. I love the contrast in colour and shape of the red brick surrounding the door and the round stone throughout the rest of the frame.

The Path http://heathofee.com/2011/03/31/london-calling/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/31/london-calling/#comments Thu, 31 Mar 2011 13:10:14 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2104 Well, I wasn’t expecting to post this image today. I was planning on making a few minor changes to this shot before posting, but a late night at the Calgary Flames game kept me from processing and uploading something else or making the edits to this shot. So, I hope you enjoy this shot as it is 🙂

I had a great time playing with textures and experimenting with onOne Software’s Mask Pro 4.1 when processing this shot. Mask Pro is an absolute joy to use when creating complex masks. Just choose which colours you want to keep and which ones you want to drop, and the magic brush does all the work for you. I was able to create the ridiculously complex mask around all those tree branches in a matter of minutes (you can see the mask here). Absolutely amazing.

The Walking Dead http://heathofee.com/2011/03/18/walking-dead/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/18/walking-dead/#comments Fri, 18 Mar 2011 13:15:53 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2033 My wife and I just finished watching the first season of ‘The Walking Dead’ a couple of days ago, and man, did we love it! Shame it was only a teaser at 6 episodes, but it was still pretty great nonetheless. Fantastic characters, a great post-apocalyptic style storyline, and some of the best looking zombies I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t seen it, make sure you check it out.

Inspired by the imagery in ‘The Walking Dead’, I decided to give today’s shot from Bombay Beach a bit of a post-apocalyptic/comic book/zombie feel. I definitely got a bit of a creepy vibe from the location when I was there, so I’m pretty excited with how this one turned out. As usual, all my stylization of this image was done in onOne PhotoTools. Honestly, since I picked up their full suite of plugins a few months ago, I don’t think I’ve published a single photo that hasn’t been touched in one way or another by an onOne plugin. It really is a great tool to have in the bag.

There’s some good news if you don’t have the suite yet: until March 24th you can purchase the entire Perfect Photo Suite 5.5 + HDR Express for $399. This is a seriously good deal, so make sure you check it out!

I don’t have too much to say about this shot…I just hope you enjoy the textury goodness 🙂

Pumped http://heathofee.com/2011/02/20/pumped/ http://heathofee.com/2011/02/20/pumped/#comments Sun, 20 Feb 2011 13:46:22 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1837 Yesterday I brought my gear to work with me and did some exploration of my still unfinished office building. I made my way up to the 45th floor (by way of stairs…ugh) and got a few cool shots of the undeveloped floor and a couple of the skyline from above. I also made my down to the parkade to see what I could come up with. I’m thinking I may try to hit a number of parking garages in the downtown core and start up a bit of series…so stay tuned for more about that.

The shot below is from the parking garage, and as you can see, I had a bit more fun with textures last night. I think the gritty concrete texture works well with the almost monochromatic colour palette, and goes nicely with the stenciled word. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out.

The Lounge http://heathofee.com/2011/02/18/the-lounge/ http://heathofee.com/2011/02/18/the-lounge/#comments Fri, 18 Feb 2011 13:51:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1817 Last night I thought I would try something a little different. Inspired by a few people (Viveca Koh, Chris Nitz, and Doug Landreth), I decided to do some experimentation with textures and frames. The shot below is a mashup of a number of layered effects from PhotoTools, three textures at varying opacities (also from PhotoTools or PhotoFrame), and a border frame from PhotoFrame. This is a bit of an experiment, so I’d love to hear some feedback. I had a lot of fun playing around with textures and frames, so I can see myself processing photos in a similar fashion in the future.
