The game wrapped up last night, so I thought I’d post my version on the blog today.

Goodyear http://heathofee.com/2011/04/20/goodyear/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/20/goodyear/#comments Wed, 20 Apr 2011 13:10:07 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2240 As I become more familiar with the post-processing tools at my disposal, I find myself leaning towards a group of the same effects on a regular basis. I’ve come to know what these tools will do for my images, I enjoy the results, and I feel using similar post-processing techniques on most of my images helps me to develop a unique ‘style’. That being said, I don’t want to get into a rut where I just stick to what I know and don’t explore all of the other great options that are out there.

While the myriad of processing options may seem daunting sometimes, it is important to continue to experiment in order to further our growth as photographers/post-processors. Even if it means trying something new and NOT liking it, at least you can say you gave it a shot. What is there to lose? Storage is cheap, so experiment as much as possible!

Hard Light http://heathofee.com/2011/04/19/hard-light/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/19/hard-light/#comments Tue, 19 Apr 2011 13:10:03 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2234 Since I was up late last night watching the final few episodes of Prison Break season one and didn’t have time to process a new image, we’re going back to Joshua Tree National Park today. I had thought about including this shot in my original week-long series from the park, but it just didn’t work as a square crop. So, the processing is the same as the others you’ve all seen, but I left it in its native aspect ratio.

Stone Tub http://heathofee.com/2011/04/07/stone-tub/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/07/stone-tub/#comments Thu, 07 Apr 2011 13:10:14 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2160 Since you all seemed to enjoy yesterday’s shot from the amazing house in Palm Springs, I figured I’d give you another taste.

This huge stone hot tub is right around the corner from the infinity pool and is just outside the master suite patio doors. What I wouldn’t give to be relaxing in that tub with an adult beverage right now…

Infinity http://heathofee.com/2011/04/06/infinity/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/06/infinity/#comments Wed, 06 Apr 2011 13:10:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2156 Ah, to be back in Palm Springs basking in the sun while sipping a cold one. Soon enough…

This is the second shot I’ve posted from this amazing house I had the pleasure of visiting one afternoon while in Palm Springs. Not much to say here. Beautiful day, beautiful pool…it was hard to screw this one up 🙂

Oh, one note: I downloaded a trial of Unified Color’s HDR Express last night and used it to process this image. I was very impressed with how real the tonemapped result was and the edit you see here is not far off from the raw output. I’ll be using the trial for the next 30 days and I’ll try to keep you all updated on what I think of it.

Hose, Anyone? http://heathofee.com/2011/03/28/hose-anyone/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/28/hose-anyone/#comments Mon, 28 Mar 2011 13:15:56 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2090 I’ve been sitting on a few images of these fire hoses from the abandoned fire station south of Indio, CA for a couple of months now. When shooting, I was pretty happy with what I captured, but when I got back home and dumped the images onto my computer, I was less impressed. Last night I decided to take a crack at one of the bracket sets to see if I could come away with something I’m happy with…and what you see below is the result.

Sometimes persistence is your best friend 🙂

Joshua Tree National Park – Bedraggled http://heathofee.com/2011/03/25/jtnp-bedraggled/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/25/jtnp-bedraggled/#comments Fri, 25 Mar 2011 13:10:16 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2071 Today my mini-series of images from Joshua Tree National Park comes to an end. Thanks for all the support of these images this week!

This is probably my favourite of the week. On one of the only short hikes we took on our second day in Joshua Tree there were quite a few of these sad, bedraggled looking trees among the rocks. Despite their lack of leaves, there was a ton of character in their branches, and the blue sky provided a perfect backdrop against which to highlight them.

Joshua Tree National Park – Piles http://heathofee.com/2011/03/24/jtnp-piles/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/24/jtnp-piles/#comments Thu, 24 Mar 2011 13:15:45 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2068 Today, another shot of the very interesting rock formations in Joshua Tree.

Although these rocks are actually quite large, I enjoy how the wide angle of this shot makes the look like a little pile of pebbles just dropped into the desert.

Joshua Tree National Park – Dusty Trail http://heathofee.com/2011/03/23/jtnp-dusty-trail/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/23/jtnp-dusty-trail/#comments Wed, 23 Mar 2011 13:10:45 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2064 A number of my photog friends have posted some pretty amazing shots of desert landscapes with a road as a foreground element, so I decided I’d give it a go while I was in Joshua Tree. I composed three or four shots like this at various locations around the park, and I think I like this one best.

Joshua Tree National Park – Skull Rock http://heathofee.com/2011/03/22/jtnp-skull-rock/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/22/jtnp-skull-rock/#comments Tue, 22 Mar 2011 13:10:41 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2061 If you’ve never been to Joshua Tree, I would highly recommend making a trip for a couple of days. There is so much to see and the landscape and rock formations are absolutely amazing. I know I’ll be heading back for some hiking when I’m back in the area because that’s one thing I didn’t get to do on my first trip.

For today’s image, I present: Skull Rock.
