Moving Water – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Mon, 19 Sep 2011 12:32:51 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Cool Water http://heathofee.com/2011/09/19/cool-water/ http://heathofee.com/2011/09/19/cool-water/#comments Mon, 19 Sep 2011 13:10:36 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3319 Last Sunday and Monday I had the pleasure of meeting and shooting with Rick Louie of Hansrico Photography. He was up in my neck of the woods from his home in Colorado on a photography trip with 8 or 9 other shooters from across North America. Sounds like they had a great time in and around the Banff area and I was happy to be able to spend an evening with them all.

The first spot Rick wanted to hit with me was a small hillside creek that created a ridiculous quantity of small waterfalls. He and the crew had stumbled upon the location earlier in the trip, and I’m glad they did as I could have spent hours shooting these little falls. Below is one of my faves from that location.

Equipment:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L
B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter

Orange http://heathofee.com/2011/06/23/orange/ http://heathofee.com/2011/06/23/orange/#comments Thu, 23 Jun 2011 13:10:05 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2594 I passed this creek on the side of the TransCanada Highway at least twice on my trip to BC a couple weekends ago. I made a mental note to make sure I stopped to shoot it on my way home, and I’m very glad I did. I only fired off a few shots as the composition options were limited due to the fact that the creek was right on the side of the highway, but I’m very pleased with what I got.

Including an interesting element into the foreground of a photograph can add a great bit of punch to a shot, and is sometimes overlooked. I was lucky to spot this huge orange rock and be able to incorporate it into my frame. Next time you’re out shooting, look for something interesting to place in the foreground of your frame to add some extra interest.

Marble Canyon http://heathofee.com/2011/05/25/marble-canyon/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/25/marble-canyon/#comments Wed, 25 May 2011 13:10:56 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2405 I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning for what would hopefully be a day of fruitful shooting. My first stop (other than the side of the road for yesterday’s image) was Marble Canyon. Just west of the TransCanada Highway along the 93, Marble Canyon is a pretty impressive display of the erosive power of water. Over the years, Tokumm Creek has whittled it’s way through the mountain rock and at it’s deepest point the canyon must be almost 100 feet deep. The pathway to the top of the canyon is relatively short, but well worth the trek. The sheer power of the falls at the top is absolutely amazing…and a little bit deafening. Today’s shot is of Tokumm Creek just before it makes it’s plunge to the canyon floor.

I’m sure some of you may be wondering what happened to all the trees. Well, a lightning strike in 2003 set this entire forest ablaze for a few days, destroying a jawdropping amount of trees. While this seems sad, it’s natural for these forests to go through these type of changes every few hundred years. It leads to new growth and helps to revitalize the ecosystem.
