Morning – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Fri, 05 Jul 2013 16:26:57 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 the tree http://heathofee.com/2013/04/25/sedona-sunrise-portrait/ http://heathofee.com/2013/04/25/sedona-sunrise-portrait/#comments Thu, 25 Apr 2013 15:18:14 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=5129

Last Friday I embarked on a 4 day trip to Arizona where I met up with 4 great friends from around the US. We drove countless miles and saw some pretty amazing stuff – but I think the highlight of the trip was goofing around and shooting portraits in Sedona at sunrise. This is a frame of Jesse Pafundi from that morning.

Wicked good light.

DUMBO Sunrise http://heathofee.com/2011/10/26/nyc-dumbo-sunrise-photo/ http://heathofee.com/2011/10/26/nyc-dumbo-sunrise-photo/#comments Wed, 26 Oct 2011 13:10:38 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3551 I must seem a little schizophrenic these days…photos from New York – Hawaii – New York – Hawaii. I just had such a great time in both places, and I love sharing how I saw both locations. Soooo…back to NYC today!

The one sunrise I caught while in New York was on the morning of the epic 18 hour photowalk with the now infamous photog crew that gathered there. We began the day in an area of Brooklyn called DUMBO which offers great views of the lower Manhattan skyline along with the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. While it would have been nice to have a few clouds in the sky, we were blessed with some wonderfully warm light as the sun started to come over the horizon. I think we call came away with some sort of composition with the light spilling onto this boardwalk with the Manhattan bridge in the background – but we all saw it slightly differently. This is my take.

Equipment:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L

The 93 http://heathofee.com/2011/05/24/the-93/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/24/the-93/#comments Tue, 24 May 2011 13:10:12 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2401 I’m completely spoiled living where I do. The Rocky Mountains are only an hour and a half away, and my inlaws have a cabin in Invermere, BC which is just outside Kootenay National Park. I think I’ve taken my proximity to such beauty for granted in the past, so this summer I’ve decided to try to spend as much time as possible photographing this amazing natural beauty.

I spent the last three days at the cabin in Invermere, and spent a good deal of time shooting some of the popular stops along Highway 93 which runs through Kootenay National Park. Before I get to any of those stops, I thought it would be appropriate to share a view from the side of this very picturesque highway.

Espresso http://heathofee.com/2011/04/11/espresso/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/11/espresso/#comments Mon, 11 Apr 2011 13:10:10 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2179 I have such great memories from my time in Venice, and one of the best was the morning of our arrival. We took an overnight train from Rome to Venice and arrived in the city just before sunrise. That morning, we basically had the place to ourselves. Nothing was open yet and the streets and alleys were silent and deserted…it was such a peaceful few hours.

When the cafes finally started to open, we stopped at the first one we could find for a quick breakfast and an espresso. This shot of my (at the time) girlfriend (now my wife) really captures the feeling we had both had that morning. Beautiful light and empty streets in one of the most unique cities in the world.

Iconic Reflection in Palliser South http://heathofee.com/2010/07/06/iconic-reflection-in-palliser-south/ http://heathofee.com/2010/07/06/iconic-reflection-in-palliser-south/#comments Wed, 07 Jul 2010 00:45:49 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=799 Anyone who has been to Calgary knows that the most iconic building (to date) is, of course, the Calgary Tower. Although not the tallest tower in the city, its distinctive shape and red cap make it instantly recognizable. While walking back to my car from work a few weeks ago I noticed that on a clear day the Calgary Tower produces an almost full reflection of itself in the new Palliser South building…I instantly knew that I had to come back with my camera to capture the scene. Conveniently, the deadline for the 2010 Buildex Calgary Photo Competition was swiftly approaching and I wanted a couple extra photos to enter. So on my downtown photowalk a couple weeks ago I made sure to capture this really cool scene…hope you like it!

Canon EOS 50D, Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5, 13mm, F 9.0, ISO 100, 3 Exposures

The details: 3 exposure HDR tonemapped in Photomatix, Lightroom for catalogue, color, contrast, clarity, Noiseware for noise control.

Calgary Skyline from Prince’s Island Park http://heathofee.com/2010/03/03/calgary-skyline-from-princes-island-park/ http://heathofee.com/2010/03/03/calgary-skyline-from-princes-island-park/#comments Wed, 03 Mar 2010 15:08:31 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=619 While on my downtown photowalk a couple weekends ago I made my way over to Prince’s Island Park and took a few shots there. It was a relatively cold morning at about -8 celsius and I wasn’t wearing the ideal footwear for tromping though the snow (slip on loafers were not a good choice) but I couldn’t resist this frost covered bench with the city skyline punctuated by a sunburst. The original crop of this image included a tree in the background on the far right of the frame but I was forced to crop it out when masking in the sky from one of the original images. I’m still working on the whole Photoshop masking process, and this one didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted…but I gotta keep trying if I’m gonna learn, right?

Canon EOS 50D, Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5, 10mm, F 16, ISO 100, 3 Exposures

This is a 3 exposure HDR image (-2,0,+2) tonemapped in Photomatix, original sky masked in from the -2 exposure with some final tweaks in Lightroom. Any critiques are more than welcome!
