I took a short walk there a few days ago and rattled off a roll of film.

This place is UNREAL. I knew it existed and have driven past it countless times but had never been in until this past Sunday. Huge kudos to Richard for the suggestion!

There’s not much I can say about these two that isn’t evident in the photos below. They’re SO much fun and are completely in love with each other. Can’t wait to shoot their wedding later this summer 🙂

The Longest Shadow http://heathofee.com/2010/10/14/the-longest-shadow/ http://heathofee.com/2010/10/14/the-longest-shadow/#comments Thu, 14 Oct 2010 12:43:07 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1170 It’s gotta be one of the best feelings in the world for any photographer when you take a shot, look at the LCD, and instantly know you’ve got something great. If I can can come away from a shoot with one set of brackets like that, I am a very happy camper. This doesn’t happen for me every time I go out shooting, but last week when I was at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, there was one set of brackets that I knew would work out.

The long shadows, winding pathway, autumn colours, and low sun just all magically lined up for me to take this shot. This was the last set of brackets I shot at the sanctuary that day, and I wouldn’t have gotten this shot if I hadn’t convinced myself to keep elxploring after completing a circle of half the park. Always listen to your gut. Often times it’ll give you good advice.

Autumn, Reflected http://heathofee.com/2010/10/10/autumn-reflected/ http://heathofee.com/2010/10/10/autumn-reflected/#comments Sun, 10 Oct 2010 17:18:16 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1148 Part of my photowalk after work this past Wednesday took me to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. I hadn’t been there since I was a kid until my wedding photographer took my bride-to-be and I there for our engagement photos this summer. It’s an absolutely beautiful park right along the river and I was lucky enough to catch it before all the autumn colors disappeared for the year.

I shot the scene below about 6 or 7 times with different lenses and compositions hoping to capture the reflections of the Colonel James Walker House and the autumn colors in the most compelling way. This is something I need to do more often. For the majority of my photowalks I throw one lens on the camera and stick with that for the entire walk. This strategy has it’s merits, but doing this can also limit your creativity, and at the end of the day, you may have missed some interesting compositions that may have been had with a different lens.

Everybody Out! http://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/everybody-out/ http://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/everybody-out/#comments Sun, 05 Sep 2010 21:58:53 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1011 I can just picture this fire alarm going off years ago…a sharp clang-clang-clang mixing with the wail of sirens on the way from the nearby #1 fire station in downtown Calgary. This fire alarm is on the outside of the old Simmons building in what is now part of the new East Village development in Calgary. It is currently the home of the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and it’s a super cool old brick building…I’d love to be able to get inside at some point and see what (if anything) is left from the original design. Anywho…this is my first HDR attempt with my brand new Canon 50mm f/1.4 and I think it turned out pretty well. To get this shot I was straddling my tripod on the ground craning my neck upwards to try and get the framing right on this somewhat strange view of the fire alarm. Let me know what you think!

Engagement Photos! http://heathofee.com/2010/07/08/engagement-photos/ http://heathofee.com/2010/07/08/engagement-photos/#comments Thu, 08 Jul 2010 14:01:38 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=813 A couple weekends ago Brei and I had our engagement photos shot by my good buddy Tye Carson. On his suggestion we hit up the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary for the shoot, which turned out to be an absolutely awesome location! We had a ton of fun doing the shoot and we couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out…thanks Tye, you rock!
