Graffiti – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Thu, 14 Apr 2011 12:04:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Hooligans http://heathofee.com/2011/04/14/hooligans/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/14/hooligans/#comments Thu, 14 Apr 2011 13:10:43 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2205 I have a busy day ahead of me, so just a quick one this morning.

I shot this during my very brief visit to Florence a couple of years ago. Nothing terribly exciting, but I had to capture this lone graffiti tag on what was an enormous brick wall.

We’re Watching http://heathofee.com/2011/03/14/were-watching/ http://heathofee.com/2011/03/14/were-watching/#comments Mon, 14 Mar 2011 12:37:23 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2011 Back to the abandoned warehouse in Niland, California for today’s image. When I walked into this urbex heaven, as soon as I turned and looked to my right, these are the creepy graffiti eyes I was greeted with. I felt safer for the rest of my time there knowing I had a pair of watchful eyes looking out for me 😉

Repeat After Me… http://heathofee.com/2011/02/19/repeat-after-me/ http://heathofee.com/2011/02/19/repeat-after-me/#comments Sat, 19 Feb 2011 15:08:18 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1830 It’s been a while since I’ve posted something with an obscene amount of colour. This has been a conscious decision, as I know that when I first started with HDR processing, I went a little overboard with my saturation slider. However, I feel that this image is one that benefits from a large dose of colour, and I really tried to amplify the awesome pink graffiti on this old brick wall. I wanted the splash of colour to be the first thing people noticed and then let their eyes drift upwards to the spraypainted quote.

This abandoned warehouse in Niland, California was a great find. I’ve already shared a few images from this location, and I can’t wait to keep leading you all on a tour of the place 🙂 Oh…and I apologize for the unavoidable F-bombs present in this frame. Hard to avoid them sometimes in places like this.

Centred? http://heathofee.com/2011/02/03/centred/ http://heathofee.com/2011/02/03/centred/#comments Thu, 03 Feb 2011 14:08:38 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1695 I was really excited about this shot as soon as I snapped the brackets, and I had planned on waiting a while before processing it. Well, I couldn’t resist, so I gave it a go last night. Turns out this beam wasn’t quite as centred in the warehouse as I thought, so despite the fact it’s right in the centre of the frame, it doesn’t cut the wall behind it exactly in half. I’m still a fan of the shot, and that’s what’s important 🙂

Mynx ♥ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/06/mynx/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/06/mynx/#comments Sat, 06 Nov 2010 22:57:26 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1247 This is officially the first image I’ve processed with my brand new iMac, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve had this machine in my hands for less than 24 hours and I’m already in love with it. Not only does it look fantastic, but the speed with which I can process images has increased exponentially…this is key. There is absolutely nothing worse than sitting in front of a computer watching a progress bar painfully inch it’s way across the screen, and thankfully I no longer have to put up with that. The transition, although not entirely completed yet, has been relatively painless thanks to my trusty external hard drives. The only thing that might cause an issue is having to completely reformat my Drobo drives to FAT32 since I wasn’t thinking this far ahead when I initially set them up on my PC.

This shot is from the the abandoned gas station outside of Seebe, Alberta. I love the vibrant graffiti and the stark shadows cast by the wood wall frame on the left edge of the image. I have quite a few more urbex shots that I’m excited to share from this location, so if you like this one or the previous shot I shared, stay tuned for more to come in the next few weeks!

Antix Caboose http://heathofee.com/2010/10/07/antix-caboose/ http://heathofee.com/2010/10/07/antix-caboose/#comments Thu, 07 Oct 2010 14:59:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1141 This is another shot from my trip to Invermere back in August. Brei’s family has a place there, so we try to get out as often as possible during the summer and fall months. In the summer, water sports dominate the local lake and there are plenty of fantastic golf courses in and around the Invermere area for those of us who don’t enjoy the water as much. When out there, I’m usually in full relaxation mode and don’t often get out to shoot many brackets, but the weather was less than ideal back in August so I felt the need to fill up a bit of my weekend with some shooting. Most of the decent shots I got were from along the train tracks along one edge of the lake, so I thought I’d share another one with you today.

Iconic Reflection in Palliser South http://heathofee.com/2010/07/06/iconic-reflection-in-palliser-south/ http://heathofee.com/2010/07/06/iconic-reflection-in-palliser-south/#comments Wed, 07 Jul 2010 00:45:49 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=799 Anyone who has been to Calgary knows that the most iconic building (to date) is, of course, the Calgary Tower. Although not the tallest tower in the city, its distinctive shape and red cap make it instantly recognizable. While walking back to my car from work a few weeks ago I noticed that on a clear day the Calgary Tower produces an almost full reflection of itself in the new Palliser South building…I instantly knew that I had to come back with my camera to capture the scene. Conveniently, the deadline for the 2010 Buildex Calgary Photo Competition was swiftly approaching and I wanted a couple extra photos to enter. So on my downtown photowalk a couple weeks ago I made sure to capture this really cool scene…hope you like it!

The details: 3 exposure HDR tonemapped in Photomatix, Lightroom for catalogue, color, contrast, clarity, Noiseware for noise control.

An Aging Semi and Layer Masks http://heathofee.com/2010/02/25/an-aging-semi-and-layer-masks/ http://heathofee.com/2010/02/25/an-aging-semi-and-layer-masks/#comments Thu, 25 Feb 2010 23:00:20 +0000 http://yycofee.wordpress.com/?p=610 I live in the far southeast quadrant of Calgary in a relatively new community called New Brighton. One of the major arteries that runs through the southeast is 52nd Avenue and I find myself on this stretch of road at least a couple times a week. Two weeks ago on my way to play a round of disc golf I spotted this really cool looking wrecked and abandoned semi-truck/trailer and thought it would make a fantastic HDR photo. I took a day off work this past Tuesday and took this photo:

Canon EOS 50D, Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5, 12mm, F 16, ISO 100, 3 Exposures

It’s nice being a little further north during the winter because the sun stays relatively low in the sky for most of the day. This photo was taken around 11am and the sun was still low enough for me to get it well into the frame. I’ve always been a fan of sunbursts, so I made sure to stop the aperture down (this is f/16) to make sure I got that effect.

This photo is my first attempt at using a layer mask in Photoshop…I should probably have already known how to do that, but I try to do most of my post-processing in Lightroom exclusively. Anyway…after running my three exposures (-2,0,+2) through Photomatix, I found that the sky looked a little dirty and was a bit noisier than I would have liked, so I masked in the sky from the original 0ev RAW file. Turned out pretty well I think, and I learned a valuable new skill! As always, critique and comments are more than welcome.
