Fire Alarm – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Wed, 06 Oct 2010 13:15:02 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Fire Alarm Redux http://heathofee.com/2010/10/06/fire-alarm-redux/ http://heathofee.com/2010/10/06/fire-alarm-redux/#comments Wed, 06 Oct 2010 12:53:45 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1138 I posted a different shot of this same fire alarm a few weeks ago (you can find it here), and I thought I’d show it from a more conventional angle today. I don’t know what it is about this fire alarm, but I can’t seem to get enough of it! The texture of the old red brick combined with the cracked face and worn letters on the alarm itself make this image a perfect candidate for an HDR treatment to help define all that wonderful age. I’m finding myself looking for scenes with texture and grit more and more often, and although I haven’t really had the chance to photograph many of them, there are a few locations on my list. Now that life seems to have calmed down a bit, I should be able to get out and shoot some of these great spots.

Everybody Out! http://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/everybody-out/ http://heathofee.com/2010/09/05/everybody-out/#comments Sun, 05 Sep 2010 21:58:53 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1011 I can just picture this fire alarm going off years ago…a sharp clang-clang-clang mixing with the wail of sirens on the way from the nearby #1 fire station in downtown Calgary. This fire alarm is on the outside of the old Simmons building in what is now part of the new East Village development in Calgary. It is currently the home of the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and it’s a super cool old brick building…I’d love to be able to get inside at some point and see what (if anything) is left from the original design. Anywho…this is my first HDR attempt with my brand new Canon 50mm f/1.4 and I think it turned out pretty well. To get this shot I was straddling my tripod on the ground craning my neck upwards to try and get the framing right on this somewhat strange view of the fire alarm. Let me know what you think!
