People love their fur children – just ask my buddy Jesse. And I’m no exception to this rule either – I’m sure you’ve all seen a number of photos of my pug/jack russell, Dexter. So when my good friends, Ben and Lisa asked me to shoot their little family, I was more than happy.

Just a shame Teddy wouldn’t keep his tongue in his mouth for the duration of the shoot

It’s always great when an old friend gets in touch after a few years. I worked with Jodi at Starbucks for a number of years and we had some really good times slinging coffee together.

Her new family is amazing. Such love and connection between all of them. I couldn’t have had more fun hanging out and shooting them.

Tug o’ War

I’m sure some of you may be getting bored with seeing photos of my dog, but without any kids of my own running around, this little dude is one the most interesting things to shoot around the house. It’s not easy to capture Dexter in action since he’s a pretty energetic guy, but I figured if I could get him locked into a game of tug o’ war I might be able to capture something interesting. This is probably the best frame of the day.

Oh, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all! With a name like O’Fee, you can rest assured that I’ll be enjoying a few pints after work

I have today and tomorrow off work, so I made the most of my time off today by sleeping in…hence the late blog post.

I really had no idea what I wanted to post this morning. I sifted through a whole bunch of my old photos going all the way back to 2009, but didn’t find anything I wanted to process until I hit my shots from last summer. I think it must be my yearning for spring and summer that made me stop on these, because that green grass just looks so wonderful right now. If you haven’t seen any photos of my dog before, this is Dexter. He’s a pug/jack russell cross and he’s a little devil…but I still love him. As I’m typing this post, he is sleeping soundly in my lap

As for the shot, I really like Dexter’s satisfied tongue-hanging-out-of-mouth look, and the juicy bokeh highlights in the background are an added bonus. I ran this shot through PhotoTools and applied a few of my favourite filters along with a light brown tint to give a slight vintage feel.

How Dare You!

Every now and then I get the urge to take some shots of my dog, Dexter. I had one of those moments today. I decided to give him a little bit of peanut butter on the end of a toy (that’s what he’s looking at in this frame) and capture his crazy tongue as he licks it off his nose and the top of his mouth. I got a kick out of this one because it looks like he’s sticking his tongue out at someone…awesome!

Dexter! (the puppy, not the TV show)

Apparently a lot of people have been asking Brei to see some new photos of Dexter, and truthfully it’s probably about time I did a mini-shoot for him! He turned 1 in April and I haven’t really taken any photos of him since we got him last summer. Last week I rented the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 for the 4 shoots I had (those photos to come soon) and decided to snap a few shots of the pup while we were over at my parents place for a barbeque on Saturday. I absolutely love the subject isolation this lens affords with the wide aperture, and the bokeh quality is pretty nice too (after renting this lens for only a week, I can already see myself getting addicted to fast primes…pocketbook beware!). All of the photos in the slideshow below were shot at F 1.8 and I think they turned out awesome!
