Colours – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Thu, 20 Sep 2012 12:28:06 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 The Colours http://heathofee.com/2012/09/20/the-colours/ http://heathofee.com/2012/09/20/the-colours/#comments Thu, 20 Sep 2012 13:55:24 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4815 I had a few minutes before a family shoot last night so I grabbed a few quick frames of the swiftly turning leaves here in Calgary. Autumn is fleeting here, but the short time we get is beautiful.

Joshua Sunrise http://heathofee.com/2012/01/24/joshua-sunrise/ http://heathofee.com/2012/01/24/joshua-sunrise/#comments Tue, 24 Jan 2012 14:10:14 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4117 The best part of the one night I spent camping in Joshua Tree was when the sun started to come up and I was forced to get out my freezing cold sleeping bag and go take photos. Sub-freezing overnight temperatures ensured that I didn’t get any sleep, so the rush of finding some good sunrise compositions was a welcome bit of activity.

I’m sure that all six of us who were camping got a silhouette shot similar to this one at sunrise. There were just enough clouds on the horizon to create some interesting colour, and those Joshua Trees are just too cool to pass up as a foreground element.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Prairie Vibrance http://heathofee.com/2011/08/22/prairie-vibrance/ http://heathofee.com/2011/08/22/prairie-vibrance/#comments Mon, 22 Aug 2011 13:10:07 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2856 In keeping with the panorama theme from Friday, I figured I’d share this shot from my home province of Alberta. Now, this isn’t a panorama in the truest sense – it’s just a wide aspect crop of a single frame. The original included much more of the fresh, black pavement and I felt it ate up too much of the frame. There’s nothing wrong with some creative cropping every now and then 🙂

Any guesses on what that yellow crop is?

Caribbean Sunrise http://heathofee.com/2010/12/21/caribbean-sunrise/ http://heathofee.com/2010/12/21/caribbean-sunrise/#comments Tue, 21 Dec 2010 13:27:04 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1430 I’m back! As most of you know, I was away in Mexico for the past two weeks getting married and celebrating my honeymoon. We had an amazing time hanging out with family and friends for the first week, and were able to enjoy some time to ourselves at a different resort for our honeymoon in the second week. As soon as we get our wedding photos back I’ll be sure to post a few of the highlights here, but in the meantime I’ll be sharing some of the shots I was able to take while away.

This first photo is actually the very first frame I took on the beach. It’s part of a bracket series that I had intended to process as an HDR, but the silhouette of those palm trees against the first morning light was just too good to pass up! I made a few adjustments in Phototools, but nothing too dramatic…this is very close to what the shot looked like in-camera.

Despite being on vacation and really wanting to make use of the time to get some quality sleep, I did manage to haul myself out of bed for 4 sunrises over the course of the two weeks. It was definitely worth it, and I should have a few more decent sunrise shots to share in the coming weeks!

Canon EOS 50D, Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5, 10mm, F 7.1, ISO 100, 30.0 sec
