Canon TS-E 17mm f/4.0L – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Tue, 15 Feb 2011 13:53:57 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Jamieson Stairs http://heathofee.com/2011/02/15/jamieson-stairs/ http://heathofee.com/2011/02/15/jamieson-stairs/#comments Tue, 15 Feb 2011 13:53:57 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1787 Last night I decided to back through the shots I took during my brief time with the Canon 17mm tilt/shift lens. Most of the good shots I’ve already shared, but I did come across this shot of a stairway in the Jamieson Place building that I hadn’t shared yet. I really think the lens tilt in this shot helps guide your eye from the top of the stairs all the way to the bottom.

If You Build It? – Cold Storage http://heathofee.com/2011/01/12/if-you-build-it-cold-storage/ http://heathofee.com/2011/01/12/if-you-build-it-cold-storage/#comments Wed, 12 Jan 2011 14:00:00 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1574 Today, another in the ‘If You Build It?’ series from the abandoned baseball diamond in Seebe, Alberta. I initially saw this fridge/freezer from the back while I was taking a few shots inside the old snack shack, but when I walked outside and looked back in through this window, I knew I had a winner. The yellow paintball splatters make this shot for me 🙂

Hard Wired http://heathofee.com/2011/01/03/hard-wired/ http://heathofee.com/2011/01/03/hard-wired/#comments Mon, 03 Jan 2011 13:54:31 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1505 Today’s shot is another from my trip to the abandoned gas station just outside Seebe, Alberta. These wires sticking out of the floor were almost right in the center of the room, so I have no idea what might have been attached to them when the station was fully functional. I do know that they were begging to be photographed 🙂

I was having some difficulties getting the angle on my crop exactly right…it seems as though some of those tiles may not have been laid quite true. What do you guys think, could it use a bit of extra rotation in either direction?

It’s Electric http://heathofee.com/2010/12/03/its-electric/ http://heathofee.com/2010/12/03/its-electric/#comments Fri, 03 Dec 2010 12:54:20 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1423 This will be my last post before I leave tomorrow for a couple of weeks to get married. Wish me luck!

After looking through the brackets from my shoot in Seebe last month, this was one of the shots I loved instantly, and I knew I wanted to save it for a while. I decided what better time to process and post it then when it’ll be sitting at the top of my blog for two weeks? I hope you all like it, and I look forward to catching up with everyone when I get back to the real world!

If You Build It? – Riding the Pine http://heathofee.com/2010/11/28/if-you-build-it-riding-the-pine/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/28/if-you-build-it-riding-the-pine/#comments Sun, 28 Nov 2010 14:27:49 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1408 Here is the third instalment in my ‘If You Build It?’ series.

For this shot I opted to get nice and low and quite close to the end of this broken bench to really make the cracked board the focal point of the image. I also took advantage of the tilt functionality of the TS-E lens to further bring focus to the crack while throwing the rest of the bench out of focus.

Lifestyle http://heathofee.com/2010/11/23/lifestyle/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/23/lifestyle/#comments Tue, 23 Nov 2010 13:36:52 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1369 Isn’t it great when you find a perfect subject sitting in an ideal position to be captured by your digital sensor? That’s what happened with this hat. I didn’t manipulate this scene at all…the hat was sitting just as it is, with that sliver of light illuminating the one side perfectly. Sometimes things just work out 🙂

If You Build It? – Backstop http://heathofee.com/2010/11/18/if-you-build-it-backstop/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/18/if-you-build-it-backstop/#comments Thu, 18 Nov 2010 17:19:25 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1320 A bit of a continuation of what will probably be a small ‘If You Build It?’ series from Seebe, AB. You can find the first in the series here.

This old baseball diamond was the first real abandoned location I have ever tried to shoot, and I’ll admit, it was kinda scary walking around this place on my own at first. Once I got over the feeling that zombies were going to jump out of every nook and cranny, I was able to have some fun and take my time with some of these shots. Now that I’ve got a bit of the urbex bug, I find myself searching everywhere I go for more locations to explore. It’s just so much fun to capture and process the images from locations like this.

6th From Above http://heathofee.com/2010/11/14/4th-from-above/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/14/4th-from-above/#comments Sun, 14 Nov 2010 19:20:21 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1285 I’ve been sitting on this shot for a few days trying to decide whether or not I should share it. It was a bit of an experiment as I took it from one of the windows of my work building which is pretty obvious from the reflection of the heating vent in the bottom left of the frame. For that reason I’m not entirely pleased with the shot, but I still kinda like the selective focus on the fire escape across the street. I also threw a couple of textures on it for good measure. Let me know what you think.

Power Trip http://heathofee.com/2010/11/13/power-trip/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/13/power-trip/#comments Sat, 13 Nov 2010 17:16:38 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1299 So far I’ve shared a few wide shots from my brief time at the abandoned gas station near Seebe, Alberta, so I figured it was time to get down to some of the grungy little details I found there. This appears to be some sort of old breaker panel, although I don’t claim to know anything about electric systems, so if I’m wrong please let me know.

I absolutely love the ability to isolate a portion of a scene with a tilt/shift lens. I think I probably went a bit overboard with that feature while I had the 17mm in my possession, but I’m pretty happy with most of the shots I was able to come up with.

Git Yer Lussier On! http://heathofee.com/2010/11/11/git-yer-lussier-on/ http://heathofee.com/2010/11/11/git-yer-lussier-on/#comments Thu, 11 Nov 2010 13:30:55 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1280 Okay, I don’t claim to be able to capture stairs the way the master does, but a guy can dream right? This photo was 100% inspired by my pal Bob Lussier (a.k.a. the Stair Whisperer), who has delivered some of the most epic stair photos you’ll ever encounter. While most of Bob’s stair images come from the amazing mills and urbex locations of the Boston area, this image of mine is from an old warehouse that was converted into a loft apartment building here in Calgary. There’s not a whole lot going on in this image, but I was drawn to the old brick wall and extra window pane sitting on the landing.
