B+W 10-stop ND Filter – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Thu, 23 Jun 2011 12:10:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 Orange http://heathofee.com/2011/06/23/orange/ http://heathofee.com/2011/06/23/orange/#comments Thu, 23 Jun 2011 13:10:05 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2594 I passed this creek on the side of the TransCanada Highway at least twice on my trip to BC a couple weekends ago. I made a mental note to make sure I stopped to shoot it on my way home, and I’m very glad I did. I only fired off a few shots as the composition options were limited due to the fact that the creek was right on the side of the highway, but I’m very pleased with what I got.

Including an interesting element into the foreground of a photograph can add a great bit of punch to a shot, and is sometimes overlooked. I was lucky to spot this huge orange rock and be able to incorporate it into my frame. Next time you’re out shooting, look for something interesting to place in the foreground of your frame to add some extra interest.

Bump on a Log http://heathofee.com/2011/05/26/bump-on-a-log/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/26/bump-on-a-log/#comments Thu, 26 May 2011 13:10:50 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2412 Another shot from Marble Canyon today…but this time at the other end of the chasm. Tokumm Creek exits the deep canyon just to camera left, makes a 90 degree turn and continues its flow downstream. I spent a good 30 minutes at this location making long exposures and just enjoying the scenery.

Mossy Flow http://heathofee.com/2011/05/13/mossy-flow/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/13/mossy-flow/#comments Fri, 13 May 2011 13:10:52 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2334 I took the day off work on Wednesday and used my time to drive out to the mountains for a bit of a photo excursion. On the recommendation from a co-worker, I made my way to Grassi Lakes which is just around the corner from the Canmore Nordic Centre where all the cross-country skiing events were held during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. After a short hike, I reached the two small lakes, and the colour was just amazing. Both mountain lakes shone with a rich blue/green hue…it really was beautiful. However, what I really wanted to shoot was the waterfall just slightly downstream from these lakes…so I made my way down to where I could hear running water found exactly what I was looking for. Water tumbled down a steep cliff face and cascaded around old fallen logs and mossy rocks. Jackpot.

Gold and Blue http://heathofee.com/2011/04/25/gold-and-blue/ http://heathofee.com/2011/04/25/gold-and-blue/#comments Mon, 25 Apr 2011 13:10:42 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2259 Over the weekend I made a trip to Elbow Falls for some practice with my B+W 10-stop ND filter. It was an absolutely beautiful day with the sun shining and the birds chirping. I could have used some clouds in the sky, but I’m not complaining about being able to enjoy the sun outdoors for the first time in a long time. I’m hoping to have a few shots to share from this trip, and I hope you enjoy the first.

The Calm http://heathofee.com/2011/01/13/the-calm/ http://heathofee.com/2011/01/13/the-calm/#comments Thu, 13 Jan 2011 13:57:56 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1580 Last week I posted one of the many shots I took of the decrepit pier that was conveniently on the beach of our resort. Today I’m sharing another shot of the same pier, but this image was shot using my 10-stop ND filter. I really love how the super long exposures (4 minutes in this case) create motion in the clouds and completely glass over the waves of the ocean. I’m still trying to get a feel for the filter, but I’m pretty pleased with how this shot turned out.

Footsteps http://heathofee.com/2010/12/27/footsteps/ http://heathofee.com/2010/12/27/footsteps/#comments Mon, 27 Dec 2010 13:29:46 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=1460 Before I went to Mexico, I bought myself a B+W 10-stop ND filter with the hope of capturing some cool images while down there. It definitely took me a while to get the hang of using it, but it was a fun learning experience and I think I was able to get a few decent shots. The hardest part for me was getting these long exposures with no cable release, since I forgot to pick one up before I left. Basically I was stuck like an idiot holding my shutter button down for minutes on end trying to stay as still as possible to eliminate camera shake…not cool. A few of the long exposures came out a little fuzzy because of this, unfortunately.

Something about footsteps in the sand on an empty beach is very peaceful. This image brings me back to the morning I took it and the feeling of solitude I had while shooting. I hope you enjoy it.
