Black and White – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Tue, 05 Nov 2013 14:55:11 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 developing at home | film http://heathofee.com/2013/11/05/developing-black-and-white-film-at-home/ http://heathofee.com/2013/11/05/developing-black-and-white-film-at-home/#comments Tue, 05 Nov 2013 14:55:11 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=5491 I’ve embarked on a new adventure: I’m now developing my own black and white film at home. Neat!

I ruined about half of the first roll I attempted, but the second roll was pretty close to flawless. The frames below are nothing special, but make me happy because I made them all on my own.

antelope canyon curves http://heathofee.com/2013/05/01/antelope-canyon-curves/ http://heathofee.com/2013/05/01/antelope-canyon-curves/#comments Wed, 01 May 2013 15:04:34 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=5136

Antelope Canyon was so impressive. The curved, striated rock and those crazy light beams were truly something to behold. Photos don’t really do it justice.

I took a short walk there a few days ago and rattled off a roll of film.

Rory! http://heathofee.com/2012/04/15/rory/ http://heathofee.com/2012/04/15/rory/#comments Sun, 15 Apr 2012 20:38:03 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4363 Wow. I’m officially a dad.

Our little bundle of joy arrived yesterday evening – and she’s amazing. Both Rory and Mom are happy and healthy and we couldn’t be happier. Here’s a first look at her:

April Fools http://heathofee.com/2012/04/02/april-fools/ http://heathofee.com/2012/04/02/april-fools/#comments Mon, 02 Apr 2012 13:10:46 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4321 Mother Nature played a nice April Fools joke on us Calgarians last night – she gave us a light dusting of snow that remains on the ground this morning. Great way to start off the spring 😉

The Way I Saw It: 3 http://heathofee.com/2011/11/04/nyc-black-and-white-film/ http://heathofee.com/2011/11/04/nyc-black-and-white-film/#comments Fri, 04 Nov 2011 13:10:15 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3700 Film photography has been quite the adventure for me over the past few months. What started out as an experiment with a Holga 135 has turned into to a bit of an obsession. There are now 4 film cameras in my arsenal, and a small section of my fridge is dedicated to housing film. Crazy.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

Abstract Ribs http://heathofee.com/2011/11/03/stephen-ave-trees-calgary/ http://heathofee.com/2011/11/03/stephen-ave-trees-calgary/#comments Thu, 03 Nov 2011 13:10:26 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3693 It feels like a long time since I’ve posted an abstract architecture shot, so I figured I’d share this one from the Stephen Avenue Mall here in Calgary. There are about 6 or 7 tall metal ‘tree’ sculptures along one section of the avenue that are designed to break up wind gusts. This is a view looking straight up to the top of one of these sculptures.

The Dark Side http://heathofee.com/2011/10/28/black-and-white-self-portrait/ http://heathofee.com/2011/10/28/black-and-white-self-portrait/#comments Fri, 28 Oct 2011 13:10:32 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3670 The two rolls of Ilford Delta 3200 black and white film that I shot in New York finally came back from the lab in Vancouver I sent them to.

I think I’m a little bit in love with this film. The grain, the contrast, the drama – it’s all amazing.

I’ve still got a whole lot of learning to do with this film stock, but I was happy with quite a few of the images. I think the self-portrait below was worth the cost of sending these rolls away for processing.

Fading http://heathofee.com/2011/09/27/waterton-lakes-national-park/ http://heathofee.com/2011/09/27/waterton-lakes-national-park/#comments Tue, 27 Sep 2011 13:10:42 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3364 I shot a bunch of wide angle views of this same scene – a couple of which I may end up sharing in the future – but this closer crop I shot with the 50mm really appeals to me. I love the way the mountains fade into the midday haze as you move through the frame.
