Abstract – heath ofee dot com http://heathofee.com Fri, 05 Jul 2013 16:26:47 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.6 antelope canyon curves http://heathofee.com/2013/05/01/antelope-canyon-curves/ http://heathofee.com/2013/05/01/antelope-canyon-curves/#comments Wed, 01 May 2013 15:04:34 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=5136

Antelope Canyon was so impressive. The curved, striated rock and those crazy light beams were truly something to behold. Photos don’t really do it justice.

Abstract Ribs http://heathofee.com/2011/11/03/stephen-ave-trees-calgary/ http://heathofee.com/2011/11/03/stephen-ave-trees-calgary/#comments Thu, 03 Nov 2011 13:10:26 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=3693 It feels like a long time since I’ve posted an abstract architecture shot, so I figured I’d share this one from the Stephen Avenue Mall here in Calgary. There are about 6 or 7 tall metal ‘tree’ sculptures along one section of the avenue that are designed to break up wind gusts. This is a view looking straight up to the top of one of these sculptures.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Loaded with a roll of Fuji NPH 400, I took to the streets and parks and came back with a few images I was happy with – this is one of them. #FilmFriday

Alien Abstract http://heathofee.com/2011/05/30/alien-abstract/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/30/alien-abstract/#comments Mon, 30 May 2011 13:55:38 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2434 While driving to Invermere a couple weekends ago, I noticed a large pool of standing water in the ditch on the side of the highway. The pool was directly underneath an interesting rock formation, so I made a note to myself (and my wife) that I needed to head back to that location with my gear the next day. What you see below is the result. The pool provided a perfect reflection of the rock above, and I felt that an abstract crop worked well with the subject.

I hope all my American friends remember and enjoy the Memorial Day holiday.

Grand Scale http://heathofee.com/2011/05/23/grand-scale/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/23/grand-scale/#comments Mon, 23 May 2011 13:10:35 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2392 I’m absolutely fascinated with architectural abstracts. Removing all sense of scale and context and just focusing on an interesting pattern can result in some very visually pleasing images.

Red and White http://heathofee.com/2011/05/18/red-and-white/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/18/red-and-white/#comments Wed, 18 May 2011 13:10:16 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2374 I had grand visions of writing a really profound blog post last night. Thoughts of growth as a photographer, going back to basics, and shooting simple compositions were floating around in my head, but for some reason I couldn’t get them to coalesce into a cohesive paragraph or two. So I’ll leave it at this: I’m constantly growing as a photographer, and I absolutely love this process. My style and tastes are constantly evolving and I’m extremely pleased with the direction in which I’m heading. In the (paraphrased) words of my friend Jesse Pafundi, this blog is an extension of who I am and what I feel at any given moment, and at the end of the day I’m doing all of this to better myself. Shoot what you love, shoot what makes you happy, shoot what makes you FEEL.

This is a photo. I took it with a camera.

Simplicity http://heathofee.com/2011/05/15/simplicity/ http://heathofee.com/2011/05/15/simplicity/#comments Sun, 15 May 2011 14:10:35 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=2346 Last week I came home from work one day to find that my wonderful wife had bought me a Holga 135! As I’m sure you can imagine, I was super excited to take it for a test run, so I grabbed a 5-pack of 200 ISO 35mm film from the local drugstore and loaded it up as soon as I got home.

The first test run of this new toy was on my day trip to the mountains this past Wednesday. I snapped most of a roll while on the hike and finished it off at an urbex site that happened to be on the way home. A few of the nature/landscape shots worked out, but I can see this camera producing much more interesting photos in an urban setting. The shot you see below is the last frame of the roll, and is probably my favourite. The simplicity of the composition and the strong contrast between the brown panel and white brick really seemed to work well.
