It was an absolute pleasure to be able to see these amazing light beams shining into Antelope Canyon when I was there. Truly a once in a lifetime trip – I hope I managed to do this place justice.

Antelope Canyon was so impressive. The curved, striated rock and those crazy light beams were truly something to behold. Photos don’t really do it justice.

Alberta Bound http://heathofee.com/2012/02/23/alberta-bound/ http://heathofee.com/2012/02/23/alberta-bound/#comments Thu, 23 Feb 2012 14:10:06 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4204 This is arguably the most random smattering of images I’ve ever posted together. And I kinda like it.

I spent a good amount of time in 2011 travelling to various places around my home province of Alberta, and this is a small sampling of images from a few of my fave locations. Enjoy the randomness.

Waterton http://heathofee.com/2012/02/14/waterton/ http://heathofee.com/2012/02/14/waterton/#comments Tue, 14 Feb 2012 14:10:32 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4185 I decided to go back through the images I shot last fall in Waterton Lakes National Park to see if I could put together a couple more posts – and I think I was successful. While most of these images probably don’t warrant an entire post to themselves, taken as a set they really show off some of the beauty to be seen in the park. I’d love to be able to get back out to this amazing spot this coming summer as the lakes are absolutely stunning.

Hellmouth http://heathofee.com/2012/02/01/hellmouth/ http://heathofee.com/2012/02/01/hellmouth/#comments Wed, 01 Feb 2012 14:10:02 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4178 One of the great things about shooting with a group of other photographers is the sharing of knowledge and ideas. New techniques that you may not have tried before come to light and subjects you may not have photographed otherwise make their way onto your memory card.

One of the downsides of shooting with a group of other photographers is that, inevitably, you end up with some similar compositions. This is the case with my shot today. My good buddy, Mike Olbinski, posted a frame of this same location with a slightly different composition a little while ago. I absolutely love his shot, but I couldn’t just let mine sit on the hard drive – so Mike, please forgive me 🙂

As for the title – I thought the creepy, salt encrusted old pier could pass for the ferry dock where one would begin their journey across the River Styx into Hades. Setting off across that eerily calm water towards the burning sunset in the distance would certainly creep me out!

Curvature http://heathofee.com/2012/01/27/curvature/ http://heathofee.com/2012/01/27/curvature/#comments Fri, 27 Jan 2012 14:10:46 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4144 My previous visit to the Salton Sea area yielded a ridiculous amount of images – none of which contained any clouds. I spent the better part of three days shooting in and around the salt-lake, and the entire time there wasn’t a cloud in sight – ridiculous.

Thankfully, for my second visit a couple of weeks ago, we were blessed with a day full of clouds that had potential to deliver a stunning sunset. We were not disappointed. As the sun started to dip below the low mountains, we were treated to some pretty great reds and oranges in the clouds.

This shot is of the curving shoreline of Bombay Beach.

Good Times http://heathofee.com/2012/01/25/good-times/ http://heathofee.com/2012/01/25/good-times/#comments Wed, 25 Jan 2012 14:10:17 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4124 This will be the first of a few collage posts of images from my time in southern California. All but one of the photos in this post are from Joshua Tree National Park – the one exception is the orange tree which is in my inlaws’ backyard in Indio.

Mike Olbinski and Chris DeAngelis get a starring role in one photo each, and the last frame shows the whole crew walking amongst the Joshua trees.

Joshua Sunrise http://heathofee.com/2012/01/24/joshua-sunrise/ http://heathofee.com/2012/01/24/joshua-sunrise/#comments Tue, 24 Jan 2012 14:10:14 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4117 The best part of the one night I spent camping in Joshua Tree was when the sun started to come up and I was forced to get out my freezing cold sleeping bag and go take photos. Sub-freezing overnight temperatures ensured that I didn’t get any sleep, so the rush of finding some good sunrise compositions was a welcome bit of activity.

I’m sure that all six of us who were camping got a silhouette shot similar to this one at sunrise. There were just enough clouds on the horizon to create some interesting colour, and those Joshua Trees are just too cool to pass up as a foreground element.

Cracking Up http://heathofee.com/2012/01/23/cracking-up-2/ http://heathofee.com/2012/01/23/cracking-up-2/#comments Mon, 23 Jan 2012 14:10:55 +0000 http://heathofee.com/?p=4109 When Rick Young turned off the highway and led us down a long dirt road towards the Salton Sea that ran next to an orange orchard, I wasn’t entirely sure that the location would work out. But as it turned out, this portion of the beach had some amazing photo ops and the six of us who made it down there each came away with some keepers.

A spent a good chunk of my time on this section of shoreline shooting towards the lake, but when I spotted this cracked earth and the mountains in the background I switched things up and shot in the opposite direction. I’m glad I did because as soon as I saw this long exposure on the LCD, I knew I had my shot of the day. Thanks for dragging us down that dirt road, Rick!
