Abstract Ribs

It feels like a long time since I’ve posted an abstract architecture shot, so I figured I’d share this one from the Stephen Avenue Mall here in Calgary. There are about 6 or 7 tall metal ‘tree’ sculptures along one section of the avenue that are designed to break up wind gusts. This is a view looking straight up to the top of one of these sculptures.

Equipment:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Wow, this is so cool Heath! I love the POV here, and it gives a pretty cool effect when you scroll down the page!

Really enjoy these shots from you and like Dave said, the effect is sweet when scrolling.

Oooh, love the light and comp, Heath. Good call with the b&w processing–this wouldn’t have worked as well if it were in color.

So you also have the 135mm L, huh? That’s a pretty sweet portrait lens.

Very cool shot Heath – love it in B&W, and as previously said, the scrolling effect is awesome.

Cool shot. Feels like I’m looking at the rib cage of some mechanical warrior. Great stuff.

Chris Frailey - November 3, 2011 - 8:27 am

Love the high contrast Heath.

John Sotiriou - November 3, 2011 - 8:48 am

Very cool, Heath!

Very nice abstract! Can’t wait to see more with the 135mm!

Really cool 🙂

Try this. Resize your browser window so it looks like a long rectangle. [ ]

Once that’s done scroll up and down this image and it gives the impression of the “ribs” opening and close. Pretty neat – but I’m easily amused, lol.

I like it. I shot a similar shot of a staircase hand rail recently, should post it sometime.

Love it! Wonderful symmetry. Tremendous B&W stripped down to the bare bones and full of contrast. it was worth looking up!

Curt Fleenor - November 3, 2011 - 6:20 pm

Sweet comp and perfect in b/w!

Chris DeAngelis - November 4, 2011 - 8:03 am

Love the symmetry here! How is that 135L? Is it new to the arsenal?
