This is a detail shot from the same building seen in my previous post. If you look hard enough at yesterday’s photo, you can probably spot this on the left wall. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what this boxes are, although it seems like they probably have something to do with the electricity that must have run to this place when it was still intact. If any of you can shed some light on what these might be, I’m all ears.
What really struck me about these boxes was the crusted growth encasing the inner structure. The textures were amazing and almost coral-like, so I had to get a close up.
really nice macro work – I would suggest that the crud is a mix of bird crap and salt. as you say – texture is king in this kinda shot.
Great detail and texture Heath!
This is crazy awesome!
Super close-up work. Very nice attention to dertail. The textures in this shot is superb! 🙂
Sweet shot, Heath! Amazing textures and detail!
The 3D feeling and the rusty textures are outstanding !
Nom nom nom!
Macro goodness.
Interesting shot, Heath. They resemble electrical junction boxes linked by a piece of flex conduit, however, I don’t think I have ever seen a junction box mounted anywhere without the completely cut-out side exposed (so you have access to the inside of the box when pulling the wiring).
As Mark surmises, the “patina” is probably a combination of guano and sodium chloride, there is more salt concentration in the Salton Sea than there is in the Pacific Ocean. (Wondering how sodium chloride might react with urea).
Awesome.
It looks to me like years and years of salty seaness has built up here…though the only way to prove that fact would be to lick it and see. Super looking textures.
Nice work Heath!
